Permanent residency obligations leniency

Hi,

I am "officially" a permanent resident of Canada since July 2017. I only spent 100 days in Canada since I got the status. I am out of the country currently.
So basically I am already 7 months short to meet the requirements. I don´t have any health or humanitarian reasons that would "help me".

To be honest also another nail in my residency coffin, is that I traveled to Canada last summer when I was still in compliance with my PR obligations during the covid19 crisis but I had to go back (still did not quit my job and move my stuff).

Even if I already did not spend much time in Canada when the covid19 crisis struck I was about to do the move but it completely stopped me because I was expecting a major economic downturn like in 1930's (which might come later or not).

I was wondering what are the odds for me in these Covid19 times to be let in without losing my PR status ? I saw that Canada was way under its objectives immigration wise so I am hoping for some leniency regarding obligations but I know that 7 months is a lot, is it an absolute no go ?

(N.B: I work in IT: programming and cloud infrastructure so even in the current situation hoping it does not worsen I think I'd still get a job quite easily).

As of now there has been no change to the residency requirement due to COVID.

What happens at the border is really up to the CBSA officer and difficult for any of us to guess.

The best advice any of us can give is to return to Canada as soon as you can (certainly before your PR card expires).

No-one can tell you the odds beyond generalities previously discussed. The only way for you to actually discover what will happen when you return is to actually do so.

If there is any connection between immigration objectives and leniency, it is likely only because the same underlying causes or issues - i.e. covid. In other words, you should NOT expect that there will be some directive to 'be more lenient because we need more immigrants' - but instead that non-compliance with RO is to some degree caused by covid issues and hence 'real.' (And not meeting targets to some degree also caused by eg covid travel restrictions.)

And I'd emphasize: the chances were better back then than they are now, and delaying further worsens them. As scylla rightfully put it, the best advice is to return as soon as you can.
