Hi
I am 30 years old right now and I have master in mechanical engineering with more than 4 years of work experience. Moreover, I have scored CLB 9 in the IELTS exam (L8 W7 S7 R7), as a result, my CRS score is 464. Do you think is it worth start learning french to take the TEF exam to increase my score and of course I am a beginner in the french language? how much will it take to achieve B2? Take that in mind that achieving CLB 10 in IELTS is difficult and it will improve my score just by 12 and compare to french 50 points it is nothing.

It's a no brainer, you should pull out all stops and go for CLB 10 in IELTS. I see you already have a 7 in writing and speaking and it should not be impossible to bump it up by another.5. Of course, it may take more than one attempt but believe me, it's no cakewalk scoring a B2 in tef/TCF from scratch even if you can put in that kind of effort, the french tests are just as unpredictable as IELTS. People who have grown up with french struggle with the listening part.
I myself have put in more than a year from scratch and have already taken the test once, so I can tell you it's not for the faint hearted. Given that you are already at 464 it's also possible to master two modules and get another 6-7 points, but another level with a language you are already familiar with and which takes your score to a safe zone? I think it's a easy decision

TEF or tcf depends upon you, I find tef easier

Just a b1 level is not enough, at least do a B2 or c1 before attempting tef
