Hey guys,

For fall 2021, I have got admission & study permit. Now i'm thinking of booking a flight to Halifax directly. However I read on the cic website that only 4 airports are functional & a hotel quarantine is in place.

So is it wise to book a flight from New Delhi to Halifax directly (as its showing online) for July end? What do you suggest, anyone has experience travelling to Halifax from India? Where do u stop etc

Hi Prabh,

What airlines flight direct? There are no flights directly from Delhi to Halifax. You land first in Montreal or Toronto. You prebook your 3 day hotel quarantine for one of the those cities. After the 3 days, you fly to Halifax and then you quarantine for another 14 days.

So you are planning to bypass the 3-day government hotel quarantine at one of the 4 airports? Please do let us know how?

I understand that, but when I search for a flight from New Delhi to Halifax, there are flights. They do stop at Torronto/Halifax, then connect to Halifax. I was just wondering, why would that option exist when everybody has to quarantine for 3 days.

I reckon I'll only book one from DEL to Montreal first, and while quarantining book the connecting flight to Halifax.

I do not plan to bypass anything. I was just wondering what is it that normally needs to be done. Whether we first book from Del to Montreal only, quarantine there and then book connecting flight or book both from home country itself.

I'm not aware of the situation of the quarantine itself or if there is any relaxation in the rules for future. Just wanted an opinion.

So the flight stops in Toronto or Toronto so that is your point of entry. You complete mandatory 3 day quarantine in one of those cities. When the 3 day quarantine is completed, you travel on to Halifax where you begin their 14 day quarantine in your home.

That is not the case for other provinces, certainly in Manitoba, a 3-day quarantine in Toronto means 11-days quarantine in the destination province. I am not sure though if one can do 14 days in Toronto (3-days government hotel and then a further 11-days elsewhere in Toronto) and then no further quarantine required at the destination province.

The Atlantic Provinces have their own bubble so everyone travelling has to do 14 days even if they have quarantined in Ontario or are just visiting from other provinces. You can do the 3 day mandatory quarantine in Toronto and then travel to Halifax and you have to do 14 days.

Ah I stand corrected, but doesn't make sense to have different rules in different provinces

Provinces are all governed differently, have different healthcare rules, etc. They all have different covid policies as well.
