Hi, we ave a complicated sitution. I am Turkish, my wife is Canadian and she is sponsoring me. Our application is outside Canada and received by Sydney in 2020 January. On August 2020 I came to Canada with my tourist visa. I was in Canada with my tourist visa more than 6 months but before my tourist visa expired I applied to extend it. I am still in Canada but I have no answer for my tourist visa extention applicatiion. I also made the address update at my application and changed my address to where I stay which is my wife's Canadian address.
Does anyone know if changing my address to a Canadian address will automatically switch my application to inside Canada? Or this address change will extend our application process somehow? As it has already been more than a year since we applied, we are really worried for this. What should I do? Turn back to Turkey and change my address again to Turkish one? If I turn back I will appear as I stood in Canada with an expired visa and I am afraid this may lead to other problems also.

It's still an outland application. You would need to withdraw the outland application and submit a new inland application to change this.

Application processing is taking much longer than normal right now due to COVID. What you're experiencing in terms of processing time is normal. Nothing to worry about.

Thank you very much for the answer. So they do not send our documents to Canada and start our application from the beginning, right? Or my address change doesn't create extra complications?

scylla is correct.

They will not start your application from the beginning because you change your address to Canada.
It's acutally pretty common. So update your new address. And extend your visitor status before it expires to retain a legal status.

You made our day! This waiting process without knowing "when" is really stressfull and any additional complication is adding more on top of it. We thank you very much to you for your replies.
Unfortunately although I applied for the extention of my tourist visa before 2 months it expires, still there is no reply.

I had a similar situation. I was a visitor/temp resident of Canada while it was processing outland. They ended up just issuing me COPR as I got DM while in Canada. Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for your reply. So as far as I understand from what you wrote: There was totally no trouble, first your decission was made, then you got your confirmation of permanent residence while you were in Canada? Sorry for repeating same things but I am new in at the forum and just wanting to be sure.

After you got your COPR approved, did you have to go back to US for documents etc or could you do the further process in Canada?

I've been in Canada since August. I came here as a visitor and just stayed and am now a PR. I got my PR two weeks ago.
