I applied for an inland Spousal sponsorship back in April 2020. At that time, I already had a work permit where I can only work for one employer so I did not apply for an OWP, which I wish I did back then now that I am in my current situation. I am no longer with the company and that work permit expires end of this month. While my PR is still in progress, does that mean I am considered implied status? Do I need to leave the country because on the work permit it says I must leave by the date? Do I need to file for something?

Please help. I am a bit lost. I have already submitted my medical and biometrics which has been received and do not want to start the process all over again.

If you didn't submit an OWP you're not technically on implied status BUT there is a general public policy in place that says that CBSA will generally not seek to remove you while the PR application is in progress, if your status expiring is the only reason why they'd try to remove you (ie: if you commit a criminal offence that would have you deported, you're out).

Okay, thank you! I was worried if I had to leave the country or not.

Is it worth trying for an OWP now or just wait it out a few months? I believe the review process is nearing a decision with it almost being a year since I applied last April.
