My local MP’s office have been chasing my application up for me on a regular basis. They are calling again today to find out the delay in work permit issuing. I will update when I get an answer

Has anyone applied for a visitor visa while waiting for spousal sponsorship and managed to get it approved? Do you mind sharing what was the reason you included in your invitation letter that convinced the visa officer to approve visitor visa? Thanks!

I applied for a visitor visa last year and was approved. I just explained that I was awaiting permanent residency and needed it to maintain my immigration status. It took forever but I got an extra year. Now i have implied status due to open work permit application being in

Criminality is already passed (within the first couple of months). But eligibility and security is still NOT STARTED. The latest GCMS notes was generated on 8th Dec 2020.
Same here :/ in GCkey what is mentionned in the background check ? Does it say that they started it or that they will send you a message when they will start ?

Thanks for replying. Did you mean you applied for a visitor visa to maintain your immigration status? What was your status before putting an application?

@armoured What's your take on it?
I have not followed closely. But ultimately for spouses, the situation hasn't changed all THAT much - many get refused, some get approved, overall the same criteria seem to be applied (ties to home country, likelihood of returning, etc).

As far as I can tell, the only significant change is need to indicate Covid-19 and family reunification in the application - and if there are particular reasons that covid-19 makes the applicant/sponsor need to reunify more salient, mention those.

But again, just my impression from those posting here. Oh, and processing times seem to be longer.

(One complication that's a bit different than before is that for those that would like to apply for TRV before getting married, they cannot apply as immediate family exemption - and if they apply for extended family on the basis of a long relationship, it will likely get looked at as a 'quasi-married couple' anyway)
