To return to Canada you need to have proof of a negative covid test but rapid test are not allowed because they have a very high false negative or failure rate.
Look what you said previous - you said Canada is not allowing rapid test. But rapid test exists in Canadian airports.

My understanding is that these rapid tests were offered to passengers who wanted them.

But the question is not 'allowing' rapid tests, but whether the rapid tests will be accepted by Canadian authorities under the new travel regs.

I don't know the answer but you should assume they are not accepted until 100% confirmed.

Rapid tests are NOT allowed:

The test must be performed using a Covid-19 molecular polymerase chain reaction (or PCR) test and must be taken within 72 hours prior to the traveller’s scheduled departure to Canada.

They had started a pilot projects at a couple of airports about a month ago. People could get a test on arrival then if it was negative then their quarantine period could be reduced. Not any longer, even after the PCR test prior to getting on a plane to Canada all international passengers MUST still do a 14 day quarantine period.

They still do tests on arrival at Calgary airport. And quarantine time can be reduced to 48 hours

Not any more, it specifically says all travellers will be subject to the 14 day quarantine period, I assume this is in response to the new covid strain.

Do you have a link to a website where it says that? Because I couldn't find it. They say they want to expand this pilot project to other cities and airports beyond Calgary

Still not saying pilot project is canceled
I think we are talking about 2 different parts of my comments above, I didn't say the pilot project is canceled but it might as well be because the new regs say that everybody will have to do the mandatory 14 day quarantine, the quarantine part being mandatory makes the pilot project redundant.

Sorry, but 14 day quarantine has been mandatory since March, they just omitted the pilot project thing on government websites, but the truth is airlines want to expand the project to other cities and I believe this is the best way to go than force people to spend 14 days in useless quarantine

The Government of Canada and most other countries around the world do not consider the quarantine as being useless. It is there to protect our country and the people in it. To help stop the spread of the virus. Many countries health care systems are on the brink of collapse with hospitals being at full or over capacity. I did the quarantine when I returned to Canada, sure it was inconvenient but not a big deal. A lot better to make certain we were not infected.

I can't imagine a person would feel very good if they didn't quarantine and went home giving it to their family members including elderly members who might not survive having it.

Most international airlines already require a negative pcr test result prior to boarding........this just makes the week-vacationers to all-inclusive resorts being forced to do test. Say goodbye to those weekly getaways/resorts, you killed their business/livelihood now.
People still need to travel for work, family and other reasons. Do you want all airlines to shutdown and never recover? Go stop those trucks bringing in food or force them to go quarantine after each trip, you'll be begging for food on Canadian streets from hunger. You want each country to be a jail ?
Why is NHL etc players exempted from quarantine ??
If someone is traveling, let them. Besides, the tests are unreliable anyway and virus recovery rate is around 99%.
If it was deadly all these people that traveled would all be dead.

Fearmongering is really getting to people here. We have PPE, so things should be ok,
Endless extensions to lockdowns and shutting down small businesses and people losing jobs and money.
While the spread is from community spreads/parties......everyone just blames air travel.
Too many haters/jealous people, and wow look, its the immigrants too that are in fear and wishing for long long lockdowns and shutdowns.
Just take precautions and live a little too, not just stay in the basement because the MEDIA says so.

Relax and take a chill pill.

Canada isn't allowing rapid tests which have a pretty high false negative rate. Many other countries and airlines allow rapid testing. I assume the proof of testing was implemented so late in the pandemic because of the new mutation that is more contagious. Also pretty clear that many are not limiting themselves to essential travel and many are not quarantining properly or just ignoring the quarantine rules. The government has done a pretty poor job explaining how to properly quarantine and there is almost no verification of quarantine plans at the airport so hopefully that will change. There is very little capacity left, if any, in ICUs across Canada and we're in for a huge surge post Christmas.
There’s 6 people in the icu in Ottawa. I would sincerely hope that after almost a year of dealing with Covid, that is nowhere near capacity.

Doom and gloom has been just around the corner the entire time. People like us and our families are being forced to jump through even more hoops, while the ruling class routinely travel or are exempt from quarantines.

Canada has changed a lot, and not for the better.
