Change of Status

Hi Everyone!

I'm currently in Canada and I have a Study Permit valid until 2020. A couple months ago, I got married to my boyfriend who came to Canada by himself, was an international student and now, has a post graduate work permit.
Since I did not adapt to the online classes system, I have decided to drop out from college and apply for a work permit based on my spouse's PGWP. Is that allowed? If so, how should I proceed? Should I inform immigration that I'm dropping out and then, apply for the work permit? Or can I just go ahead and apply for work permit?

Yes, you can apply for a work permit based on your spouse's work permit as long as he has a NOC A, B or 0 job.

I would strongly recommend that you stay in school as a full time student until the work permit is approved. Processing times are long right now and there is never an absolute guarantee that the work permit will be approved. If you really want to drop out of school now, apply to change your status to visitor so that you can keep legal status in Canada - however if you do this, you won't be able to work (even part time), until the open work permit is approved.
