Hi all!

I have work permit and job offer. My wife has open work permit without any job offer.
We have never been to Canada previously.
Will it be a problem to cross the border for my wife?

Yes your wife needs special authorization to enter and needs to show that her travel to Canada is essential

What could be a potential reason for authorization?
She can't stay in the current country without me...

hi Johny,

I recently discovered this myself. I hope you haven't booked your flights as yet - but if you have you may be able to move them.

See the below article on who is allowed entry and who not:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...travel-restrictions.html#family-reunification

Your wife will need to apply for a travel restriction exemption letter from the IRCC which will give authority for her to enter the country. If she does NOT have a job they will view it as non-essential travel and she will be turned away either before boarding the plane or when you arrive in Canada. Not a good situation to be in.

You can apply for this letter by emailing all her details, UCI number; Application Number; Proof of relationship status with you and your proof of immigration status and they will send you this letter.

Email to use is: IRCC.COVID-TravelExemptions-Exemptionsdevoyage-COVID.IRCC@cic.gc.ca

I dont know how long it takes - I have just submitted our for myself and my children to go in with my husband. Other threads on this forum mentioned 5 days to 2wks...so lets see.

Good Luck - keep us updated.
