Hi,

I am currently studying in a college in BC, I'll be getting my work permit in 6 months hopefully. My dad is alone in India and it kills me everyday thinking about it. I want too bring him to Canada, atleast on visitor visa for atleast 6 months a year. My question is when I was looking about Visitor Visa in Canada for parents they will see my income for 1 year, which i need to show in my tax returns of last 1 year. Does this mean that I can only bring my dad after 1 year of me working in Canada? Thanks in advance for reading this.

They won't look at your income. (Only if you decide to provide the documents) They will look at your dads income, savings, property etc.

Thanks for the reply. My dad has three properties with rental income but he is retired. What are the chances? Retired status is a bad things while applying? And any idea about what is the approval rate for parents visitor visa?

Generally visitors are allowed into Canada for a six month period, however others are only allowed in for a shorter period of time. How long your father is given will be determined at the border by CBSA when he arrives here. You can apply for an extension to his visit once he is in Canada, but approval is never guaranteed. If he manages to stay here for a year, he would then want to return to his home country and stay there for at least 8 months before trying to return to Canada. You want to avoid making it look like he's trying to live here on visitor status (that will be regarded as an abuse of the visa privilege). The general rule of thumb is that he should be spending more time outside of Canada than insite of Canada in any 12 month period.

In terms of what he should show to have the highest chance of approval: property ownership is good and he should show savings / bank balance to demonstrate that he can fund his trip to Canada. If he has previous travel to countries requiring visas (e.g UK, US), then he should include proof of this travel in his application. If he has no previous travel to countries requiring visas, this will weaken his application. If he receives retirement income / pension payments, he should show proof of this as well. Make sure you take out private insurance to cover health care emergencies. For any non-emergency care, you'll need to pay for that out of pocket.

There is no % approval rate for parents available. It depends on the strength of his application.

You may want to look into the visitor section to get some information about getting visitor visa for your Dad.

This section is for PR or citizen to sponsor family to become PRs. Also during pendamic, you may not be able to get him visa and travel permission.
Again, most memeber in this section are already PR/citizen so the situation they face may be different.

btw. your dad will need travel medical insurance and beware of medical cost that's not covered even with insurance. So be prepared for extra cost.
