inland OWP approvals + spreadsheet

Am curious if people are getting approved for inland OWPs? Is there a tracking sheet anywhere? Which month are they on right now for processing OWP.

We can deal with long PR processing times as long we can get a work permit in the meantime.

Also the stress of potentially waiting 7 months just to get the application package returned is overwhelming. Are we supposed to keep extending visit status multiple times? I am worried they will deny a second request (we have requested once already and it expires in December).

I don't know what month of applicants you're in, but some of the months on the Google spreadsheet have a topline OWP timeline in them:

If you have an OWP application that has been submitted, not returned, but still pending approval, you are granted "implied status." This is as good and as legal as a valid Visitor's status. This will prevent the need to keep applying for Visitor's Extensions. The only grey area is if you're truly worried that your OWP app. may be returned and your legal status is about to expire. In that case you may want to apply for a Visitor's Extension to cover yourself. Because should the OWP app be returned, then you'd be out of status.

On a related note, I read in other threads that Visitor's Extensions are rarely denied if you have a PR application pending, so I wouldn't worry about a second request being denied. You just have to mention the PR app. on a Visitor's Extension application, should you decide to file one.

wow completely missed the OWP columns at the end! I thought the spreadsheet was for PR only. thank you for the kind reply!

we submitted our application end of September with the OWP but right now AOR is 7 months behind (running in March currently). Implied status starts once the application has started processing right? not from when we submit? we may have application returned as I learned we made a couple mistakes but we won't find that out for months...Spousal health coverage is also tied to current visit status in Alberta (implied status doesn't count), so to get provincial healthcare he has to maintain active status. in February we did put PR sponsorship as reason for extending but am worried they will deny if we put another request for the same reason (although with covid, one would expect them to understand that all applications are running delayed). extensions are also running 6 months out from date of application, which is approximately same for AOR timeline. better to request extension right now in this case?

if he leaves the country after requesting, would that cancel his extension application? (he's American and misses his family. been a year since he saw them)

I believe implied status starts when the application is received by IRCC -- end of September/early October in your case -- not the official AOR date (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). Once it is in their hands, it is their property and responsibility to move forward in the process.

Because your provincial healthcare is tied to your status, then I can see why maintaining active status would be important. But I still wouldn't worry about submitting a(nother) Visitor's Extension and cross-referencing the PR app. And yes, Visitor's Extension applications are running incredibly behind. I submitted one in April and it's moved along, but still has not been approved. So slow that I received PR in the meantime!

To your last question, you/he cannot leave Canada on Implied status, and you really aren't supposed to leave while your PR application is processing. I know some people in here say a 1-3 week visit home or outside the country is allowed, but remember that it is up to the individual Canadian Border Patrol officer whether to let him back in Canada or not, and especially during COVID they're being extra watchful. On paper, a spouse should be able to get back in, but a common-law partner may have more resistance. Even in the best of normal times, if he's out of Canada for a long time, and IRCC sees this, the application could be rejected under the excuse of abandonment.

yeah, we weren't thinking for him to be out of the country for a long time, just a couple of weeks. it's also much faster way to reset his visit status than doing the extension.

the most stress is waiting to see if the application will be returned and could be 6 months before we know. I've seen March applicants say their package was returned in September for minor mistakes. such a waste of time!! why can't they just ask for the information online? especially during covid! you would think they would have more compassion right now. how can they expect people to put their lives on hold for so long?

sorry, just feeling especially disheartened right now as I learned of another returned application...
