Hi Guys,

I hope you are doing good, and are staying safe during this pandemic.

My PR application was approved in January 2020, and I received a CoPR document. I made an initial entry to Canada from US in March 2020 to complete the landing formalities. However, I returned back to USA to complete some pending work, hoping to move to Canada permanently by beginning of 2021.

The thing is I wasn't told at the border to update my mailing address on IRCC website, as I thought I already provided them with my mailing address. I haven't received my PR card yet, and upon inquiring, I was told that my PR card application has been abandoned, and I need to apply for a new PR card (by submitting a new application, fees and photographs).

Since, I am outside Canada at this moment, should I apply for Canadian PR card or PR Travel Document (PRTD)? If I apply for PRTD, how long would that be valid? Can I apply now, and move to Canada in March of 2021? Or should I apply for PRTD before I move to Canada?

Thank you for your help in advance

If you are outside Canada you need a PRTD (maybe you could come back in at a land border with just your COPR but I wouldn't advise it). Usually it is valid for six months.

Thanks for your reply @primaprime. My concern is IRCC's wordings that say "Your application was deemed abandoned due to non-compliance. Your Canadian address was not provided within the prescribed period". I hope this doesnt mean that I need to start the PR application all over again (all the way from ITA, providing several documents, paying fees, etc.). I hope that this only means that my PR card (not PR application) has been abondoned.

Thank you,
Ajeya

PR card application. Once you land you're a PR until you renounce it, it's revoked, or you take the citizenship oath.

@primaprime Thanks for your reply once again. So, it looks like I just need to apply for PRTD (one time Canada entry document). Do you happen to know how long do they take to issue a PRTD? I'll apply for one accordingly.

Thank you,
Ajeya
