If you already landed as a PR before you get married, you must be living in Canada in order to sponsor your spouse for PR. Applications processed in India are usually done within a few months.

If you are in the process of applying for PR or even if you have gotten your PR visa but not yet landed, and you get married at this point, you would need to add your spouse to your application. You would then inform the visa office that you got married and want to add your spouse, fill out the forms for your spouse, add fees etc. and and send to the visa office.

Don't believe everything people tell you. There are no rules stating how long you should live in your PNP province. You signed when you applied that you intended to settle there. This must have been true when you applied and when you landed as a PR. Otherwise you could be seen as having misrepresented yourself. However, after that, if several months later you find out that you can get a better job in another province, nobody can stop you from leaving. You are not breaking any rules.

Hi Leon,

I have a question for you, hope you can help me.

I just became a PR, I landed this summer in Quebec. My boyfriend just proposed to me and we are planning our wedding for fall next year. :)

The thing is that he lives in Toronto, he is born Canadian but he doesn't speak french so he hasn't been able to find a good job in Montreal, not even half good as the job (and salary) he already has in Toronto. I also have a good job in montreal talked to my boss and he said they could arrange to transfer me to the offices in Toronto, this way, nobody loses a job.

I am thinking on moving to Toronto this winter and be in the same city of my future husband so that we can do all the planning and start our life together.

Is there any inconvenient for me moving from Montreal to Toronto?

I wouldn't like to have problems when renewing my PR card or applying for citizenship in the following years.
I don't know if I should keep any document as proof of my situation in the case there is any problem for me moving of province.

can you please give me some advice?

Did you sign any documents stating that you will stay in Quebec for a certain amount of time?

If you didn't, then you are free to leave.

As an applicant she signed Schedule 5 http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/quebec-apply-application.asp

PMM and Leon,

I am checking the declaration I signed, but it doesn't mention any period of time that I would have to stay in QC after being granted my PR.

the declaration I signed has:
my full name, my date of birth, my signature with the date I signed it (one year ago), and the Declaration:

"I declare that my family members and I intend to live in the Province of Quebec.

I authorize the Government of Canada to share all necessary information with respect to my application for permanent residence in Canada, including the decision made on my application, with officials of the Province of Quebec."

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/imm0008_5e.pdf

I signed the declaration one year ago and living in QC was in my plans, I've been living here for four years, I love it here! but now my boyfriend proposed and he's been struggling to find a job here :(

I want to thank you in advanced for your advice, I really appreciate the time you take to answer all the questions to help many others. that is very nice of both of you.

That is my point exactly. There is no minimum time. You had the intent to settle in Quebec when you applied as well as when you landed so you have lived up to this declaration you signed as far as that goes.

After landing as a PR, life goes on, intentions can change etc.

Hi anyone please help me.

I am on a serious relationship for almost 8 years now. I may be landing in Canada few months from now as a Quebec Skilled Woker PR visa. I am planning to get married as soon as I receive my PR. I read somewhere that I cannot sponsor my bf If I landed in Canada as single. Though we are in long term relationship, due to strict family values, we did not lived together. What are my options so I could bring my bf from the Philippines to Canada and start our lives together? My plan is to go back to PH in several months after getting my PR card and marry him. I hope it's fine, and will not jeopardize my PR status in Canada.

Please someone advise me, what us my best option?

As long as you did not live together, there is no basis for a claim that your relationship is "marriage-like" according to the law and you would not have needed to include your future spouse on your application for PR. Once you have landed and have PR status, you can marry him and sponsor him as your husband to come to Canada. As long as there is evidence that your relationship is genuine and ongoing, and not solely for the purposes of immigration (a marriage of convenience), you should not have any issues.

The only issue would be if you were married to him or lived together and established a common-law relationship while you were applying for PR, which would make your spouse ineligible for sponsorship and could be considered misrepresentation, but that is not the case here.

I got married to my long time gf this January and was planning to travel in March to Canada but lockdown happened.
how can I apply her pr as I was told that I can apply only after staying in Canada. And I don’t intend to live alone without her.
