Hi Everyone,

Hope everyone is safe. Just want to ask, if there is already an existing visit visa and is now applying for work visa, will the visit visa be forfeited or cancelled if the application for work visa got approved? Please enlighten me.

Thank You and Be safe always.

What are you calling a 'visit visa'? (A) The sticker in your passport that got you on a plane to Canada or (B) the 6 months you were authorised to stay, on arrival?
Anyway, a work permit is a status document, to allow you to stay in Canada. If you mean (A) above the 2 don't have anything to do with each other. If you mean (B), the work permit will replace your visitor status in Canada.

Not sure if you are already in Canada but it will take a long time to see if you get a WP approved even if your potential employer already has an LMIA. LMIA will add at least a few more months. Given the higher unemployment numbers getting a WP approved maybe quite hard. You are definitely looking at 6+ months to get an answer without working unless you are in a highly skilled industry.

Thank you so much for your time @thevisawhisperer @canuck78. He applied for visit visa last year and got a multiple visa entry for 10yrs. Fortunately, there is an employer who wants to hire him with a 2yr contract. We're thinking that if in case he applied for the working visa and got approved, will his visit visa for 10yrs be replace by the 2yr working visa? Is the visit visa will still be valid for 10yrs or it'll be terminated or cancelled because of the working visa. By the way the person is not in Canada, He is at his home country. Again, thank you for your time and sorry if in case my question is non-sense.

He can’t travel to Canada and may not be able to travel for a long time. He might as well apply from outside Canada. The employer likely needs a LMIA. Given Canada’s higher unemployment rates it may be much harder to get a WP unless for specialized skills.

The visitor visa is something that you show to airline personnel in order to be able to board a plane to Canada.
The work permit is permission to remain in Canada and work for a specific period of time. The two don't interact.

Sorry, I just want to make sure I understand it right. The visit visa will still be valid until expiry(year 2029) even if in case he will be able to get working visa? He is not in Canada and the employer was able get an LMIA as well. We don't expect the process will be fast or normal processing because of the Pandemic. We just want to make sure that the visit visa won't be cancelled or terminated just in case he will be able to get a working visa. Again sorry and thank you very much for your response and time @thevisawhisperer and @canuck78 thevisawhisperer and canuck78.

I really do appreciate your time. Thank You.

Yes - the visitor visa will still be valid until 2029. Yes - he can still apply for the work permit.

He must apply for the work permit from outside of Canada. He cannot travel to Canada until he has an approved work permit.

Thank You so much @scylla. It's a relief for us to know and make sure what situation we're getting into immigration wise.

Again, Thank you and I respect your knowledge about Immigration @scylla @thevisawhisperer @canuck78 =D

You still have a long way to go. Given the higher unemployment rates it will be much harder to get a WP unless it is in a very specialized field or in a field where Canadians are not willing to do like Agriculture of food processing.

I actually agree to that given the Pandemic that's happening we don't expect easy, fast or even normal processing time. For now we're just grateful that we have the working visa option knowing it won't jeopardize the visit visa. Thank You so much @scylla @thevisawhisperer @canuck78 =D
