Thanks. Is there any use of getting SIN if I'm not going there immediately
There is no hurry to get SIN, but in my long experience with all immigration in general, it is better to have something in hand than rely on some rule or interpretation. So get it because you can.

Need help- I need SIN number before August 20 as my Canada employer needs it. I am driving and moving permanently to Canada from U.S on August 4. Will be in quarantine from 4 August to 18 August.

What's the best possible way to get SIN before August 20?

1) Should I go in person on August 19 to their office, and will they hand it out immediately the same day?
2) Or should I apply online ? Do I need COPR stamped for that? If so, I can apply on August 4 after border crossing, and can get it delivered at Canadian address? But will it reach by August 20? From what I saw above it is taking 3 weeks minimum if you apply online

Please suggest which approach is better of the two

Option 1 would be the only option that would work for you. Just find a service Canada that is open and get it. It would be given right away. Online process takes at least a month to get SIN. As per law, you have up to 3 days after joining to provide your SIN.. so you can go on August 19 and get it, and provide it to your employer on August 20..

My online application is taking longer than normal. I applied online on Jun 17th for a new SIN (change of status) since I became a Permanent Resident. I called and they said that the supporting documents are alright and that it is a matter of time for them to generate my new SIN and mail it.

The problem is that the agents that take the phone calls are not able to do anything other than seeing the status of the application. It is going to be 2 months now and I have not news yet. My wife's new SIN arrived 10 days after she applied (I did the application for both of us the same day).

Anyone with the same situation?

how did you submit your original document because it’s online ? What’s the process for it. TIA
you can submit scanned copies. Originals not required for online process. Documents required are copies of - PR, copr, passport and one or two US address proof like drivers license/online credit card statement etc.

Hey, I got rejected today. I applied with COPR, US bank statement as address proof and passport.
I guess I should apply with signed COPR right? what docs did you use while applying?
Signed copr is what you need to upload. Did you upload that? don't you have PR card? Was the bank statement credit card statement or checking account statement? In their website they mention credit card statement explicitly and may not honor others.. You could also include another residence proof such as drivers license or utility bill. Call them and see why it was rejected...
