Dear all,

Can I manage a small convenience store or such retail store or deli etc with 200k in any city of canada - Vancouver, Hamilton, Ottawa etc.

Can anyone tell me what businesses are feasible with 200k.

Thank you.

I will attempt to answer this: Can anyone tell me what businesses are feasible with 200k.

What are your core competencies/skills/interests? If you have 200k to invest then I am assuming you have 200k plus at least 50-100k more to survive till your business starts to generate profits. So what did you do to earn that money? Can you use those same skills to start a business in a similar area?

1. Restaurant/deli business is not bad but might be a sure shot to loose money - especially during Covid when people are scared to eat outside,

2. If you are interested in teaching kids then probably you can start a Kumon franchise with $75K and establish yourself in the city and then search for local opportunities to invest the rest?

3. You can also look at self-storage options. Once established day to day oversight is minimal and you can use that time to start something else.

I would personally steer away from both GTA and Vancouver - real estate costs are extremely high and 200k might not be enough. Here are the list of 5 costliest cities:

1Toronto, ON
2Vancouver, BC
3Victoria, BC
4Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo, ON
5Calgary, AB

If I personally were to stay in GTA and Vancouver I would get into real estate building or perhaps start as a small supplier or even fix/flip older houses for a profit!

Hope this sheds some light!

Ottawa is more expensive than KW and Calgary. Would imagine so Is all of the northern Territories. Many other cities in B.C. are more expensive than KW and Calgary. Montreal is probably comparable to KW and Calgary these days.
