Hi, I received an email from CIC-Etobicoke-Landings, with subject "Confirmation Of Permanent Residence (application number) " and the message is "In order to complete your application for permanent residence via virtual landing - please confirm that the you and your family members are in Canada. If you are in Canada please indicate the date you entered Canada and the port of entry that you entered and Canadian address.
If you have not yet returned to Canada please advise once you have returned and port of entry.
Please reply via return email.
**Please confirm if you are in Canada**
"

I responded to the email and I know there is a process change due to covid, but I am bit confused.

I heard from my friends who got PR confirmation recently with a passport request letter. And while reading about Copr online it says it is a kind of approval letter with photos of individual. I am staying in Canada with my wife and kid and after applying PR didn't make any travel. My queries are.

Can I consider the email (without any attachments or letters) as my Copr?
If yes does it mean that 100% pr confirmed? IRCC website says there might be an interview to review documents again after Copr. And when will I get passport request letter?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
My partner also received an email from CIC etobicoke regarding virtual landing and to confirm if he is in Canada or not. Unfortunately, he is not in Canada and got stuck in India when he got his PPR. Did you get a response for your email? Or if you have any information regarding this from other people who might have got the same email.
Thank you!

Got a similar one but not CoRP. The agent states that my application is in the finalization process and asks me if I'm in Canada or not, and when were the last entry date and port. I assume it's coming to the end and almost 100%.

Hi,

We are waiting for our COPR deadline is 10th july but haven't got any information in regards to whether they have done background checks etc.
Did anyone receive email from CIC informing they started background checks?? and
Was your file completed in given time frame? They gave is 6 months which is coming to end on 10th july but no other communication.
Please let me know if anyone is in same boat as us

ok..Got the same email from Etobicoke for virtual landing on Wednesday and email back with requested info.
Today emailed them to check how long it will take. they said virtual landing is complete and I should receive CoPR within 7 days. So looks like they are now posting CoPRs.

Good to know. I received the same email yesterday and replied back to confirm. Within 15min my profile was updated to approved with references to a CoPR number but nothing beyond that.

What exactly did they say about receiving CoPR within 7 days? Like a physical paper, or PDF in your account messages?

I'm sorry but it's completely unreasonable to expect that your application will finish in 6mo during covid-19. That "deadline" you mention is an approximation (based on the 6mo target) but IRCC have been clear that you should expect delays in times like these. They've been reduced down to critical operations for months and are just now starting to ramp up their operations.

I just got approved yesterday after waiting over 4 months since I got PPR. All in all the application took almost 10 months. Also, before yesterday, my last profile update was back in October when medicals passed. It's normal to not see any updates until the end.

Oh I don’t understand what the point would be in doing a virtual landing and then posting you the COPR. The COPR is what you use to bring to the boarder to activate your residency, by doing a virtual landing you don’t have to flagpole so you do not need the copr letter. I was under the impression that when they process the virtual landing they will email you back saying you are now officially a resident. They will then request you to send photos off so they can get your PR card made and send it to you.

You do need a document to prove status when applying for things like new SIN number, updating drivers license and MSP. So they do need to give you something.

Yes I understand that. But they will give you a document that states you are officially a permanent resident once they do your virtual landing. Maybe I’m wrong but that’s what I have picked up from reading other people’s comments.

I think you'll still get a CoPR. The difference is that with a virtual landing, the CoPR has already been signed and you are automatically "landed" / in status. In contrast, you would previously have had to bring the unsigned CoPR to a border agent (or by inland appoint) and have them sign it for you to activate your status (aka landing). In both cases, you would need to use the CoPR to prove status for PR card, documents etc.

At least that's my understanding of the process. Plus, those emails/letters about "Congrats you are now a permanent resident ...." supposedly have a CoPR # reference on them.

Sorry I didn't answered your question at that time...to be honest I was not sure if I was to get Copr via post or email since they said 7 days. but I received confirmation of permanent residence letter on email within 7 days (say 6th day). But checking my online status it says that I landed Etobicocke on the day they received my response so that day is noted as my landing date and Etobicoke as landing place. It's a confirmation letter and I have posted along with a photo for the processing of PR card. And have applied for new SIN online.

CoPR would look like this. https://preview.ibb.co/mcNzAS/24uxqgm.jpg
Not sure if the format/ process has changed - You may cross validate the same with the agent.
CoPR is a life long document which serves as a proof that you acquired Canadian PR & it may be mandatory to submit if you apply for citizenship in future. Its an important document, so make sure you get the one with the correct format.
