Hmm.This doesn't seem positive.Actually it depends on the destination countries too whether they are ready to receive flights or not.Like Canada has put up ban till 30 June May be from July most countries resume operations.Hope for the best.See they are more worried abt financial losses of airlines than our interests. If this lasts long airlines are likely to get bankrupt. So this might be a driving force to resume flights.

Hello Friends,
I need an Urgent Help, if you can help please.
I got my COPR along with my wife and 1 year old daughter in December 2019. Medicals July 2019.
Our COPR expiring in July 2020. & we haven't flown till now for soft landing or anything. Then Covid19 happened in March, and I was really scared to travel with a kid.
So, I am really worried what will happen to my COPR? I checked CIC site, it states if you not able to travel due to Covid19, please raise web form. Don't know what is the use of that?
Can you please help me as to what is the best alternative available for me right now,
Even though Flights resume operations in July 2020, i will be scared to go on a such a long journey with a kid especially in this condition.

Can you please respond on this? I will be happy to provide any more information if you require to answer this? Thanks in advance.

I got response to above query from a senior member that I need to raise a webform for this. @pumpkin_latte

Can you guys please suggest that if there is any risk of losing PR status through this process?
Rather you are the best person to take call on this. You should evaluate your personal situation and finances and figure out when is best time for you to migrate. Simply landing in Canada under the fear that your application will be closed is not wise.

You may consider following things to arrive at a decision
1. If you land in Canada leaving your home country job or business, how you are gonna sustain your family in Canada specially under recession ?
2. You can explore soft landing, but you will be required to do quarantine in both Canada and in your home country.

As per my understanding IRCC is not rigid, they are compassionate enough to understand an individual's situation and give him or her an extension based on that. We are still not clear whether they are awarding 3 months or 6 months extension.

Confirmation of Permanent Resident Document

If you have been issued a Confirmation of Permanent Resident (COPR) document on or before March 18, 2020, but you have not travelled to Canada yet, you are exempt from the travel restriction measures and can travel to Canada once commercial flights become available.

If your counterfoil expires prior to commercial flights becoming available, you do not need to email us as you will receive communication from our office on the next steps to be taken once full-service resumes.

I am in Melbourne, Australia and am intending to travel to Vancouver. There's one possible option for me to do so before my PRV expires on 20th June. Taking the Qatar Airways flight via Doha to Montreal and then connecting Air Canada flight to Vancouver. Would this be okay without a CSQ? I searched on different threads here and on the canada.ca website but couldn't find a concrete answer. Someone before asked this question about transiting through Quebec but I couldn't find an answer. Highly appreciate any help and all the best to everyone in the pursuit of the Canadian dream.

Yes the PA can land but you’ll need to sponsor your wife again if she can’t land by the time her COPR expires. I guess you can try and ask for an extension but that is far from guaranteed if you were able to land.
Echo Saad and Canuck78 !

@rex230
Assuming you have already considered the below - what is the hurdle you see?
  • Both of you performing your Landing
  • Your spouse takes 10 working days leave from work - then returns back home (provided flight/leave etc are feasible)
  • If that is NOT feasible, Your spouse works remotely from Canada for 14 days (well 10 working days). Then returns back
  • If even that is not possible, the: this option. Which is highly 'unadvised' you must think deep and do your research + expert opinions (mine is not)
    • Both of you land. You obviously have your clear honest quarantine plan
    • Your husband returns from the airport within the next few hours on the first flight
    • Experts might opine about airside restrictions - and they may be correct (means you have confirmed your CoPRs/immigration check point and hence technically although you are still at the airport - you are 'in Canada'). I do not know and cannot conclude whether it is allowable for your spouse NOT to quarantine.
    • There are several other opinions in this thread, equally advocating, that you are fine to take the next flight back - as long as you did 'not leave the airport'.
      • Is that 100% proper? - who knows CBSA perspective!!
      • Is that practically feasible given the new world pushing every government on earth to rethink every immigration practice? - again - such a hard thing. Given all the time, money, dreams and emotions both of you have put into Canada - the best place on Earth!
I wish you and your spouse the very best of judgement call @rex230 !

Regards
Nav
Thank you for reply.
Currently we are exploring remote work option. Hopefully that works out for a longer period rather than just 14 days.

As long as you can confirm you have a connecting flight to Vancouver you should be fine

Hi Guys,

Is Air Canada running flights at the moment? I am based in the UK and was planning to travel on June 13th (COPR ends on June 25). I had booked my flights using British Airways and they keep cancelling my flights. So im looking to book flights with Air Canada. Just want to know how consistent Air Canada is with its flight schedules at the moment. Thanks in advance!

Will you be staying airside for the connection on a single ticket given that is grey area as far as the guidelines are concerned given once exit into the arrivals or departures halls then you have in effect exited a 'sterile' area into one where the general non travelling public could be. The guidelines simply say transit is OK as long as do not leave the airport when really maybe should be specific about leaving the airside, but thats just my view.

As per the other reply landing in Montreal is not an issue as long as can show the onward travel and also an isolation plan for Vancouver. Montreal will be your only interaction with CBSA so you will need to show an isolation plan to CBSA at the Montreal POE

They have given 6 months ext to the 2 cases which came in our knowledge.Never heard of 3 month option.Rest they will decide depending on situation I think.

Thanks for the reply. The Air Canada flight be on a separate booking. I don't plan to step outside the airport but will have to collect my luggage. I have sent my travel plan and details to Qatar Airways explaining the travel exemption so that hopefully I can reduce the hassle and confusion at the airport.

Hey - just to confirm I managed to do my connection flight to Ottawa from Toronto.
I ended up flying on 27th April because my 28th April flight was cancelled (last minute on 24th April)
I flew with Air Canada from London Heathrow to Toronto. I did not have a connection flight at the time. Once I landed and did all the PR immigration paperwork, I collected my checking luggages in Toronto and bought a same day 1 way ticket to Ottawa (the final destination mentioned on my COPR letter). I then did again the checking of my luggages and boarded the second (and last) flight and finally landed in Ottawa 45 minutes later.

All in all everything went smooth and even if I did my first POE paperwork in Toronto I was not required to do my quarantine in Toronto.

I arrived at London Heathrow at 8.00am and needed to wait for the Air Canada stand to open at 9.00am. Because I had a COPR letter (not a Canadian passport or PR Card), I needed to deal with a supervisor at the counter before checking in so that he could confirm that I was all cleared to travel. No big deal at all he only made a quick phone call and I believe the main important thing he verified was the date the COPR was issued) ...then he said "ok you are good to go !!!"

Before boarding I was asked again to show my COPR letter. It was only 29 passengers in the whole boing ! We (my spouse and I) could sit wherever we wanted which made it easy to comply with social distancing. The plane was so light that we actually arrived 1 hour early in Toronto. We were required to have our mask on during the whole flight and the air crew was fully covered mask + gloves + full white clothes covers...they looked like surgeons....

Prior to the departure we had booked a grocery order pick up with Walmart and arranged with our Airbnb host that he would collected and delivered the order to us.

Now we are almost halfway through our quarantine. We are starting to search for a permanent accommodation (the current Airbnd is booked for a month).
As soon as the quarantine is over, we will open a bank account and ask for a formal bank letter so that we could use it as a poof of address to apply for our SIN online.

Hope this helps :)
Stay safe everyone !

You will have need to have a 14-day quarantine plan for your final destination., i.e. whatever place in Sasketchwan you are travelling to. Once you arrive in Toronto, you will present your quarantine plan to the officers and then take your flight to final destination. Once you land there, take your bags, go straight to the quarantine location.

They have given 6 months ext to the 2 cases which came in our knowledge.Never heard of 3 month option.Rest they will decide depending on situation I think.
6 month extension starting from when exactly? expiry of first COPR?

Sir, you really need to take a breath and RELAX.

The government of Canada is not going to strip you and your family of something you've worked hard for and earned. YOU nor your family caused the pandemic, correct? You didn't ground international flights, correct? Did you single-handedly destroy the world economy? No! You, me and everyone else here are victims of a consequence of the times. When you have legitimate reasons for not travelling, why would you be punished?

Please see this official Canadian directive to IRCC officers on how to handle requests for extensions

It says very clearly and I quote:

If the applicant informs IRCC via the web form that they are unable or unwilling to travel after the expiration of their COPR and PRV, or if they are unable or unwilling to travel prior to expiration, officers are to re-open the application, and it should be brought forward for review in 90 days.
Once the applicant informs IRCC via the web form that they are able to travel, a re-opened application may be re-approved provided that the applicant and their family members, whether accompanying or not, have valid immigration medical examinations, criminal and security checks and passports.

Other members, please like this post if my point is correct and that @malikjatin should not unduly worry.
Many thanks mate :) it really helped me.

Hi members

I'm in similar position as most of us here. My COPR expires by 25th June. Early I had plans to do softlanding and my travel date was 22nd May. But the flights got cancelled. I live in UAE and with given situation of mandatory quarantine 14 Days in Canada and again 14 days here back to UAE its gonna be hard for softlanding. So I decided to travel by early November hoping things will get better.

However, My consultant advices me to travel before the expiry of my COPR. In addition to Quarantine and I need to travel with a toddler M, hence I'm Unwilling to Travel now.

Will there be any resistance if in case I don't land before June, given some flights have resumed its operations

Kindly advice me (To inform my consultant) as what's the best way to handle.

Just landed in Toronto yesterday from the U.S. It was smooth in general. The only thing was that when I checked in at the airport, the Delta staff told me only PR could travel and asked for my PR card. I explained the exemption and everything, but he said he needed a number on the PR card to process the boarding pass. I handed him my COPR, but it seemed that he was not familiar with it. Eventually he tried my UCI number on the COPR, and it went through. At the boarding gate, I was asked for my PR card again. I explained again and the lady just let me in without seeing my COPR.

On the Canada side things are easy. I was the only one doing landing at the immigration desk. It took about 10 mins. The system somehow couldn't process the address for mailing PR card, so the officer gave me a number to call later.

I do have a question - I was asked if there would be any stuff to follow after my landing, and I answered no. But I was not asked for the list of items that I was bringing with me this time. Is that going to be a problem?
