Hello.

I have a quick question and would really appreciate any guidance in my situation.

I passed both IELTS and TEF (for my Federal Skilled Worker application) when I immigrated to Canada.

Some time ago, I shredded both of those certificates as they expired. Now I found out that you could still use the expired certificates to prove your language skills when applying for the Canadian citizenship.

I have the scanned copies of both IELTS and TEF certificates but not the original hard copies.

I am wondering whether I can submit the printed scanned copies of those certificates while submitting my application for the citizenship. And most importantly whether at any step of your application process you are required to submit the original copies of those certificates (if that's the case, I'd rather take one of those tests again).

Thanks in advance!

My original IELTS score was submitted when applying for PR in 2010. For citizenship, I used a copy of that.
Do language skills certificates expire? I don’t recall seeing that in my IELTS cert.
I believe IRCC is more interested in the residence requirements rather than IELTS as they will pretty quickly establish your English skills in the interview.

Thanks for your reply. IELTS results are valid for two years.
But for the citizenship purposes, even the expired certificates are accepted.

So to confirm - at no point in time the original copy was requested/required?

Hi,

I recently have completed my citizenship test and awaiting the invite for my oath ceremony.
Came to Canada on a work permit then got my PR when I did IELTS general and used it for the PR.
Applied in Sept 2019 for the citizenship by when the IELTS had expired for over 6 months. So I just provided the scanned copy print out as an evidence for the language requirement eligibility fulfillment as part of my citizenship application package. And all along original was never asked for anything.

So you are good with just the scanned/photo copy of the expired IELTS for the citizenship application.

All the best with your application.

Thank you so much! That's a huge relief.

Congrats, by the way!

yep. I was not requested for another original IELTS score.
