Where can I find a list of documents? Anyone else applying from the UK?

I want to make sure we have everything ready for the application. We intend to send in a complete application in a few months time.

Where is the best place to start? My wife is a Canadian Citizen and will be my sponsor.

Go to the CIC website, and enter in your details. This will give you a checklist and a list of all the forms you need. It will also list any specific country additional forms you need. READ the complete guide many times before starting, triple check everything with the checklist, provide photocopies unless originals wanted and make sure everything is translated into English if not already so.

Download all the PDF files you need to send. Check them what is needed and gather them. 1 month is enough to collect all documents. Apply as soon as possible because now timeline is a bit short then previous timeline.

Also, my husband completed his Medical exam in Manchester this past week and the doctor informed me that in April the prices will be going up as the Government of Canada now wants to test for Hep B and Hep C in addition to Syphilis, HIV, and Creatinine levels. We checked all the England offices and we paid 340 pounds, so just a note that it will be going up. Collect all your documents, police certificates etc. It took me around 3 months to complete and send in as I was also in Uni at the time

From a preliminary read, it looks like she has to apply for the sponsorship and I have to make a PR application (both at once). The guide says that since we live outside of Canada, it'd be a Family Class application.

We will download all the forms the CIC site recommends for our specific case and start filling them in. We've already started gather photos, certificates, official documents, etc.

Please do suggest/advice on things to look out for as per your knowelddge/experience.

I can't make an application right now as my passport is being renewed and I'll be given a new passport and as such will have to wait 1-2 more months before I can submit the Canada application.

I am a bit unsure about the police certificates. I remember reading somewhere that you need that from wherever you've lived most of your life in the last 10 years. Between 2010 and 2020, I've lived in the UK for 8 years. Does that mean that I only need a UK Police Check?

I can't make an application right now as my passport is being renewed and I'll be given a new passport and as such will have to wait 1-2 more months before I can submit the Canada application.

Well if you look at my timeline below in my signature, and compared to people who applied earlier in 2019, I received a lot of the documents faster than they did, each under 1 month. But I wouldn't worry too much about that because it varies, I applied earlier and some people after me received requests before I did. It all depends on your application, and who is assessing it.

There is also a tracker that people are using so it gives estimated time and these past few months its showing fewer days to receiving replies from CIC but not sure how reliable it is.

In the checklist there is a section for the PC.
My husband lived in Spain for the majority of his time so we submitted from there, and then in the UK since 2018 so we submitted one from there. I cant remember exactly rn but I believe it was anywhere you lived for more than 6 months - within the last 10 years.

Do we send the police checks to CIC ourselves or do we ask the police to send the certificates to CIC?

If we are sending it ourselves, then maybe I can start the process of trying to get them from both countries right now.

Police checks are sent in your application package. For the UK, it is ACRO. What other country do you need?

Here it will give you the links to where you need to get your PC from. If you plan on submitting soon, then yes I would as ours took 4 weeks. Also just a reminder if its not in English then it needs certified translation
