You should not pay for any flights or hotels until you get a visa since you are not guaranteed to be granted one. It will take a s long as it needs to take. Patience is key.

Given the processing time is almost a month, plus mailing time, plus biometrics time, you should have applied at least several weeks earlier.

It started to count when you gave your biometrics. It seems that you have submitted your apps too close.
Have you submitted your application on paper or online? Because it needs at least 3 days for pasting the visa in your passport and ready for collection if you submitted online.
