They will likely ask for a cardiac exam no matter what medical he is doing. Pretty common request for seniors with any form of cardiac issue.

Pretty sure PGP announcement was later on in December last year and there is never a guarantee when the announcement will be made. Could be January this year. It will be announced eventually.
Almost exact thing happen to my Dad. What kind of cardiac exam is this?

Read the previous posts. No one knows yet what the process is going to be.

They will consider line 150 of your tax returns.

For what it's worth, pretty much everyone on this forum who was trying to sponsor their parents / grandparent found the backlog completely unacceptable when there was no cap on sponsorship. There were many letters to MPs, petitions, etc. People thought it was horrible and barbaric to have to wait a decade or more. There were many instances where parents aged out health-wise - meaning that when the sponsorship application was first submitted, their health was fine. However by the time they were in the last year of processing and the medical had to be done, they had health issues and failed the medical (and were refused).

The only way to improve the intake process (without implementing a cap) would have been to hire more agents. Hiring more agents would have either required significant additional funding from taxpayers (which would never get public support) or very significantly higher application fees. If I remember correctly, there was a survey back then and people were asked about cap vs. fee that is many thousands of dollars - and people voted for the cap.
I agree with you that people thought like that back them but honestly I don't see this process any better and I think a lot of people now my want to choose the lesser evil here which is the backlog. Yes it is true the backlog you had to wait but you knew you will have your chance for sure whether be accepted or not but you will get your chance. The problem is that now you may never get the chance because literally it is a gamble to get your chance and psychologically it drains you every year with hopes and then losing them you may as well be trying for 10 to 20 years with no luck how is that better than knowing that at least in 5 to 7 years you may get your chance.

Either way hopefully they will come up with System we haven't thought as of yet that is better. Let's wait and see, time will tell.

As many senior members here concerns, the PGP put lots of pressure on the Canada health care system, and it is certainly getting worse because we do not currently make enough doctors and the hospital's beds to meet the demand!
So in my opinion, maybe one of the barriers IRCC could use is to raise the responsibility of the sponsors - private insurance for health care is a must for at least 5 years. Second limiter would be raising higher LICO per family. These two conditions are heavily financial related and it should filter a lot of unqualified sponsors while still helping a bit with the health-care system.

Regarding to the way of doing it: I think I sound crazy but let do a little game where everything get on the table
1/ First round: 5,000 spot: Guaranteed sponsors who have sky-rocket LICO plus 5-year warranty on private insurance
2/ Second round, 10,000 spot: Typing race
3/ Third round, 5,000 spot: Lotto
4/ Fourth round: Anyone can think of anything else? Maybe if our parents have a Job offer???

The private medical insurance is a no-go. PRs have a legal right to provincial health coverage (provided they meet the various requirements such as residency like everyone else). IRCC cannot legislate a denial of provincial health coverage for PRs.

No, they can't. Health coverage legislation is outside the power of IRCC. To deny health coverage to PRs would require changes to other legislation, such as the Health Act.
