Adding an dependant

I intend to add a dependent (because of different name and lack of information at the time) who I did not include in the provincial nomination application.

I have now been invited to apply for the PR. I have now gone to find out that the dependent actually qualifies to go with me as I am responsible for him and he is under 22 years.

Can I go ahead to add him to the dependent list? I am afraid this might be matched against the list I submitted to the PNP

No he is not. But he has been with me for some times and I am responsible for all his expenses and schooling. I need to bring him with me

Are both of his parents deceased (i.e. is he an orphan)? Have you officially adopted him through the court system in your country?

No. He is with me by way of mentoring. I am the one training him. Though, I can arrange to get documentation for his full adoption. I just need to be sure it wont count against me because I did not include him in the PNP application.

Strongly recommend you get a consult with a lawyer before you do anything with your PR application. He doesn't meet the classification of a dependent at this time. Depending on his age, it may be too late to officially adopt.

Great. Please can you assist on how to get a lawyer for this purpose. I really would like to explore all possibilities of bringing him with me. He is currently 17 years. I am ready to engage a lawyer for this please. I need a contact

I don't have a recommendation for a lawyer.

However I can tell you that the adoption needs to be completed before he turns 18.

Thank you so much. I will start and complete the process of adoption definitely before he turns 18. I will also get a lawyer. What about the fact that I did not include him in the PNP application? is it fine?

Think you need to research adoption of convenience.

This will likely be seen as an Adoption of Convenience. Expect that you will not be able to include the child as a dependent

I'm not sure I agree with that based on how IRCC assess adoptions. If the dependent has been living with the OP for a number of years, the OP is the primary caregiver and the OP has been taking care of the dependents basic needs like food, housing, schooling - and the parents are out of the picture and have been for a number of years - it's actually quite possible this will be accepted.

Could be. The OP's statement "he is with me by way of mentoring. I am the one training him" doesn't indicate a parent-child relationship to me. Perhaps it is a translation miscommunication.

As you advised, OP should certianly be consulting with an experienced lawyer.
