Marriage to a Syrian

Dear All,

This is my first time on this thread and I really need some assistance. I am a Canadian citizen and I am interested in marrying a Syrian man. He is presently there and as you know the situation in Syria is not good. The closest Canadian Embassy is in Lebanon and now everything is closed there too because of the problems they are having. I have a number of questions that I would like answered.
1) Does Canada accept Syrians to marry he?
2) How can I get him to come?
3) Once he`s here in Canada--can we get married?
4) Does he have to go back to Syria? Or can he remain here and we proceed with the paper work?

I would really appreciate all the help I can get .

It is incredibly unlikely that he would get a visa to enter Canada. You would need to get marry abroad and then sponsor him. Hopefully you have met before and have spent time in person together. He would need to go to a neighbouring country for any interview.

You should assume it will not be possible for him to get an approved TRV to come to Canada as a visitor to marry here. However he can certainly try.

Most likely, you will need to meet him in Syria (or a neighbouring country) and marry him there. You would then return to Canada and apply to sponsor him for PR. Once the PR application is approved, he will be able to move to Canada. Expect processing to take around 1 year.
