Hello Everyone, A question related to Travel after receiving CoPR.

I and my husband got our CoPR. My husband is primary and he is planning to travel in the next few days. As I am pregnant, I will travel after my delivery. Between my delivery and my CoPR expiration date, I only have 20 days window so, I have a few questions: -

1) Since I am not primary do I need to declare a new dependent before traveling (i.e., our child once born)
2)If yes, since I will only have 20 days window to travel and I am just planning to do soft landing without my child, can we just declare about child and not process the child's CoPR before my visit
3) Can our child's COPR be processed later as my husband (primary applicant) would have already made the entry before child's birth

You do need to have the child on your CoPR if the child is born before you land

If you don't, you may not ever be permitted to sponsor the child to be a PR in Canada also.

Hi, I have updated the questions. Sorry, I think they might not very clear earlier. Can you please let me know if I just declare, do I need to wait till child's processing is done or I can just declare and travel, since I am not the primary applicant and primary applicant would have already made the entry before child's birth?

The answer is the same.

Your husband can land before the child is born, sure. But you can't land after the child is born until the COPR is adjusted.

Your plan won't work. Once the Principal Applicant has landed, no further changes, such as adding a child, can be made to the application. You would also not be able to land on your COPR anymore.

Your options are:

1. You land before the birth and have the child in Canada.

2. You land before the birth, return home to have the child and your spouse sponsors the child afterwards.

3. You don't land and have the child at home. Your spouse will then need to sponsor both of you. He will need to live in Canada throughout the sponsorship process, so if you/child require a TRV and don't have one, you will likely be separated for up to a year.

Thanks Really appreciate your response. I understand no further changes will be made once Principal Applicant has landed.

Once Principal Applicant, my husband, has landed and we declare that the child is born and we don't want child's CoPR, can I still use my approved CoPR to land or they will still need child's document to process and I cant also travel, while they are processing.

Yes, for next one year and we were thinking of getting processed child's application afterwards.
Then you have to have the child, and then inform IRCC that the child is non accompanying. If you show up and say you don't want to change the COPR to include the child, you will never be allowed to sponsor it to Canada.

The COPR must be adjusted before the husband lands. It will take a while to do so.

No, you can't land. You will be asked when landing about any changes to family composition and when you inform them of your child, you will be refused landing because the child isn't listed.

The only other option is for your husband to delay landing. Once the child is born, you immediately update IRCC prior to COPR expiry. The child will then need to be added to the app. You and your husband will have to return your COPRs/visas to be reissued. You may have to redo medicals. Expect this to take at least 3-4 months of additional processing time.

Thanks for the reply. This makes sense. So would they be accessing our points again or its just the matter of redoing medicals and sending child's documents to get child added?

Right, Thanks.

They would not recalculate points. It would just be a matter of adding the child and possibly redoing medicals.
