Hello all,

I am in process of applying for PR just about to get my medical check. I have ulcerative colitis and on medication that is quite expensive. It is partially covered by work insurance and the rest by pharmacy. I know this might become an issue, just curious to see if anyone has had similar successful/unsuccessful experience that they could share? I am happy to hear any info, as far I have very little info on what to prepare for...I have read comments about this but couldn't find anything that could help.

Recommend you use the search feature on this forum and search on the word "crohns" and "crohn's". There are actually quite a number of threads here on this topic.

The key question is how much your medication costs per year. If it's over $20K, you may have a problem.

I had applied in September 18 and my file is still under process..
I take humeira twice a week and my medical are still under review.. it's been over 11 months .. Got additional medicals test for Inactive TB which is a side effect of humeira...

Hoping to get it cleared as the costs can be within the limit as per our research on the medicine...

How can the pharmacy cover the cost of your medication?

It's being covered by the supplier of this medication (should say pharmaceutical company), my work insurance and now also trillium! They can do that for patients with lack of funds and desperate need.

Thank you for sharing that! I know there is more hope with humira as it should become generic soon! How was your medical exam? Did you need to provide your medical records/ history?

Thank you! Will try that! That's the tricky part as I am not sure what to take into account, medication alone doesn't exceed $20k but with admin costs it comes to a bit more than that.

You have to factor in all costs (including admin), as well as doctor visits, medical exams, etc.

I have Crohn's disease too and i'm in remission. My work insurance covers for 80% of it. I got a procedural fairness letter last week.

Given that you still qualify for trillium on top of work insurance and patient support program would be a warning sign. That also isn’t the pharmacy covering the cost of living our medication.

CIC always takes into account that you could lose your insurance at any time and would then be dependent on the government.

What's your AOR?
I have seen people with chrons who has received PR last month without any PFL .
I'm still waiting for my PR AOR Sept 17th 2018,No updates .
I think I might be under CSS and that's the reason it's getting delayed..

Okay. What if I promise that I will bear the entire cost of the medicaiton myself if I lose insurance and show that I have a job in Canada with a annual salary that will allow me to do that?
