Child care benefits to first time movers Canada

Hi guys,

Is it possible to register your child for CCB in Canada if you move there first to set things up and your kid moving there afterwards, lets say a few months after?

Or do you need to have your baby with you while you register him/her for the benefit?

And how long does it take to actually get eligible for CCB. Is it like instantly after you arrive and get your SIN number or do you have to wait for it

You can't claim CCB for a child that isn't living with you in Canada.

Of course it isn't instant. You have to apply and it takes a few months to be processed.

Eligibility seems pretty well defined in this link that child must be living with you in the country and you must be resident for tax purposes. Generally all the information that newcomers require such as CCB, CRA and so on is easily found on various government websites.

So another question is, if the child moves and lives with the parents for the initial 3 to 4 months and CCB starts to get credited however the child and mother leave the country for 4 to 5 months to wrap up everything back in the home country, what happens during those few months? the CCB continues to get credited?

Somewhat depends on when they land. You have to call CRA and they will determine whether you will qualify. Your wife and child will likely not qualify for healthcare. There are specific residency requirements to qualify for healthcare coverage in each province. These differ from RO. Before you apply you need to look into whether you will meet the residency requirements for that province. If not, your wife and child must sign up for healthcare coverage once they return to live in Canada permanently.. You should take emergency coverage during the times where they don’t have coverage.

Partly understood your post. So your saying once the spouse and child are enrolled for health coverage only post that CCB credit can start?
