Hello omofar.
My passport expires August 2020.
Can I go ahead and apply for a student visa. I’m intended program of study is a 2 year programmer
Yes you can. Minimum passport duration should be at least 6 months. The embassy will issue you a TRV for up to the length of your passport, and when you get to the POE in Canada, the CBSA officer will issue you a study permit for the duration of your course. You will need to however extend your TRV if you wish to travel out of Canada.

All the best.

Hi Omofar, let me begin by appreciating the excellent work you're doing here. Almost read through and your replies have been both professional and friendly.
OK, i am 28 Mathematics major in my first degree, I was going to apply for masters but from my research and from this forum I might be on a disadvantage vis-a-vis my age. My query is this, I want to apply for a PGD diploma instead but In a different field can I do that? Also I graduated 2017 and have a business that is registered with CAC. Personally I have 17,000 CAD in savings I.e 10,000 CAD plus part payment for my tuition, I hope it can serve else I should be able to get my friend to vouch for whatever balance that would be left. My goal is to eventual go on with Masters after the program but work in between there in Canada, please advice appropriately. Thank you once again for all you do here and represent.
Hello Cephars,

Thanks for your kind words.

I presume you must have some work experience, your age is not so bad. I would suggest you really consider looking into a program that aligns with your first degree or your most recent work experience. Being a mathematics major, anything in IT, computing , cybersecurity etc should be a good fit.
I would suggest you demonstrate the source of your income, and try to beef it up a little bit more. Finally, I would strongly recommend you try to get into a Masters degree program, you are likely to get a scholarship and with that, you have more than enough for your personal upkeep.

I wish you all the best.

Hi,
I am presently preparing to submit my application to my Canadian school. But Intend to use prodigy finance to sponsor a portion of my tuition fee. How will this affect my visa application later on. Also, my school doesn't require me to write an English exam will this affect the visa application too.

Hello Omofa, I quite appreciate ur professional advice u're dishing out to people, it's very helpful. I've a question please, I've been refused study permit from CIC Nairobi, kenya. No doubt there were mistake in my application which CIC wouldn't point out. But can still apply for visitor's visa if I got an invitation from?, n would the refusal determine my chances?. And can I apply for work permit Ro Canada? Bcos I had an opportunity to do so, but I've d feeling that the application process may be synchronized. Are there chances? Thanks

Hello Copingwithlife,

I hope you are coping well (lol). Thanks for visiting. I also want to thank you for the link you shared. I will thereby respond to it.

I used the operative word, *seem*. I process Canadian Study Permits (CSPs) for multiple clients, I see how the VOs treat those with US visas compared to those without. So my opinion is based on the facts at my own disposal. I recently applied for three young people for pgd studies. I applied for all three of them online. I applied for the person with a US visa last, she got her permit first. Two applications processed in Kenya office and one in London. 2 other got rejected. I re-applied for the one of the ones that got rejected, addressing all the issues raised in the refusal letter, and she got her visa, she will be off in May. The third person decided to get someone else. You may wish to do your research, unless the person is a criminal, terrorist, if it is a normal person and has US visa, his/her chances of getting a Canadian visa is almost 100%. Your article also does not apply to this case. Those Nigerians at the border did not apply for Canadian permits, they only applied for US permits. The smart ones that applied for Canadian permits based on their history of US travel get their visas, and will not be part of those at the US-Canada border seeking asylum status.

Many thanks again.

Cheers

Omofar.

Good day sir;

included in my application.
2. Second reason was due to family ties in Canada and in Nigeria, I have a relative in Canada who has agreed to provide accommodation and feeding only during the period of my studies but tuition and fees are entirely sponsored by my parent.
3. The final reason was due to employment status. I’ve been working with my dad in his construction company since completing NYSC in 2017, though my previous course of study isn’t related to construction but the course I applied for in Canada is civil engineering technology, therefore all the work I do has been under supervision of either my dad himself or a site engineer(s) so my appointment letter has a clause in it saying that I’m in training. I applied to study civil cause of the passion I have for the profession and this is why I chose to be working with my dad to get hands on experience while also seeking professional qualifications.
I really need your assistance on how to go about this point. It’ll be great if I could get a means of contacting you in person you could reach me here jidegerman20@gmail.com
Thank you.

What am really concern with is the POE
