Hi guys,

I read the guide for how to put documents in order, but I am still confused.

So I am thinking to put mine papers in this order:
1. Checklist
2. OWP application
3. Any barcode pages
4. OWP receipt
5. Applications and supporting documents shown on the checklist, starting from IMM 1334, sponsorship application fee, (IMM 1283), IMM0008, (IMM 5406), IMM5669....and so on.

I will only put one coversheet in front of everything.
Is my order correct?

Thank you!

Hi, I'm in the same situation. But according to their guide, I understood that the OWP application should be with the receipt and then the barcodes and next receipt for PR...

"If you’re applying under the Spouse or Common-Law Partner in Canada class and the person you are sponsoring is also applying for an open work permit, after the checklist, place:
  • the work permit application form and documents (if applicable) and
  • a separate fee payment receipt for the cost of the work permit application"

Follow the order listed on your checklist. Any additional sheets you attach (aside from the cover letter) should appear immediately after the form it corresponds to. Place all OWP materials (forms/documents) together. And yes, include the OWP checklist with the OWP application.

It might help keep everything organized if you place your materials in separate envelopes, usually 3-4 clearly marked envelopes (still in order of the checklist). For example, for PR application, have the forms in one envelope, sponsor documents in another one, and finally principal applicants in another envelope. The fourth clearly marked envelope could be for the entire OWP application. I did something like this, with PR checklist and barcodes left outside of the envelopes BUT placed in one bigger envelope/box. Sounds confusing but it's not once it's in front of you, haha. Good luck.

For OWP application, are you sending only the imm5710 or are you also sending their checklist?
I asked IRCC today. They said we have to include the OWP checklist. I did not ask them whether we have to provide the same documents to prove the cohabitation or IMM 5409 will be enough. Maybe someone more senior can chime in here.

According to an old thread I just found, we do need to send duplicates of documents, since they are different applications. I'll call IRCC just to confirm that anyways

Hi there!
Did you confirm it?
I'm putting all the paperwork together now and got confused with this, too...

This is what the spouse/common-law sponsor guide says https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/application-forms-guides/guide-5289-sponsor-your-spouse-common-law-partner-conjugal-partner-dependent-child-complete-guide.html :
"If your spouse or common-law partner is living in Canada with you and is applying as a member of the Spouse or Common-Law Partner in Canada class, they can also apply for an open work permit when they apply for permanent residence. They must include a completed Application to Change Conditions, Extend my Stay or Remain in Canada as a Worker form [IMM 5710] (PDF, 484.21KB) and the correct fee, explaining that they are applying for an open work permit."

And the "Submit your application" section says:
1. Place a copy of the checklist on top of your complete application package.
2. If you’re applying under the Spouse or Common-Law Partner in Canada class and the person you’re sponsoring is also applying for an open work permit, after the checklist, place:
- the work permit application form and documents (if applicable) and
- a separate fee payment receipt for the cost of the work permit application
The order of documents should be as follows:
  • checklist;
  • open work permit application (and supporting documents), if applicable;
  • any barcode pages;
  • supporting documents, in the order they are listed on the checklist.
Thanks a lot!

Hi, I did call them and they told me to add all the documents they requested in the checklist for the OWP even if I had already added the same documents to the PR because once it gets there, they send the application for OWP to a different office, and it needs to be complete. So I sent in the order that you mentioned, with checklist for both applications and duplicate documents in the order they asked.
I sent my app on April 23rd and got my work Visa on June :)

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/application-forms-guides/guide-5553-applying-change-conditions-extend-your-stay-canada-worker-paper.html#5553E7

To complete your form:

  1. Once the (OWP) application is completed, click on the “Validate” button located at the top or bottom of the form. This will generate a barcode page (page 5 of 5) - see image below. If this application form is completed on a computer and printed, you must place the barcode page on the top of your application (or if applying as a group, each individual application package).
