Hello,
I am looking for help and information about my situation which is:
I am a Citizen and resident of Canada.
My partner is a Citizen and non-resident of Switzerland.
We want to live in Canada for 6 months per year so that I can maintain my residency.
She/we have entered Canada 4 times on just a visitor visa for her.
She does not want to work in Canada.
Even though she can legally stay here for 6 months each year, actually 6 months on each entry, the information that I have read says that it is up to the border guard to decide each time if she can come into Canada. Last time they grilled her for 45 minutes asking her if she would be working. She also must have an exit ticket each time she comes.
Is there some way that we, she especially, can come into Canada and avoid the uncertainty and hassle each time we cross the border?
Also, is there some rule that will eventually come up where she must become a resident to return on a regular basis?
Any information would be helpful. Thank you in advance.
Michael
