Extension of work permit from PGWP

Hi guys, I'm just wondering can you extend your work permit if your pgwp expires? I know once you're granted a PGWP, you're no longer eligible to apply for another pgwp, but can you extend it to a regular work permit? And can you apply work permit while still holding a PGWP? Thanks in advance.

You can change over to a closed work permit but this is extremely difficult to do. In order to change over to a closed work permit, your employer must obtain an approved LMIA. Most employers are not willing to go through this process.

First of all, I would say make sure you take at least a 2 year program so that you qualify for a three year PGWP.

If you want to stay past the expiry of your PGWP, then you have to hope that you qualify for PR by then and have enough points to be selected. If not, it's generally extremely difficult to stay. Again, very difficult to find an employer willing to go through the LMIA process so that you can get a closed work permit.
