Attending a conference in Ottawa

Hello,

I hope you are well.

I am very concerned about my application for a visitor visa to Canada.
Basically, I was accepted to present an article in a conference host by Carleton University and Bank of Canada from 28 of June to 30 of June.
My university will provide funding for my attendance as well as the Royal Economic Society. Additionally, I have also provided that I have my own funding to attend the conference by showing mine and my wife’s bank statements from the last 4 months.
I am a Brazilian citizen who is taking a PhD in London and also have a master degree in an American institution.
I submitted my application ( together with my wife’s ) on 13 of May and we made the biometrics on 17 of that month. By the time that I had submitted my application the processing time was 19 days.
My flight is schedule to take off by 27 of June. But I have no update whatsoever in my online application from the date of my biometrics.
My question is: what is the chance to get the visa on time for this trip? The processing time now is 35 days.

Anyone, please?

Impossible to say for sure. Your profile seems quite strong, I'm assuming you have traveled multiple times to the US and the UK.

Has your wife traveled extensively as well? Is there anything in your or her background that might cause a delay? Any refused visas in the past? Overstays? Anything at all?

If her profile is as strong as yours, I would say you should get the visa. Whether you'll get it by the 27th is anyone's guess though.

Yes, absolutely, We have been traveling around Europe and US for many years. Either me or my wife had F1/2 visas to the US and we still have tier4 visa ( entry clearance ) to the UK. No overstays, no visa rejection and of course, any kind of crime or visits to the court of justice. This also apply to my home country. So, as you said, it should be fine for having the visa.
But what annoys me the most ( apart from the huge cost I had so far, and it is more likely to be lost ) is the fact that the likelihood of having a visa issued after the conference is not low. And what is the point to have a visa after the conference? Yes, Canada is a wonderful country and deserves to be visited many times. And what is the point to host a conference in Canada if some of the participants are not allowed to entry in the country. And what about that infamous Processing Time?

Finally, after 36 days, the Canadian Embassy aprove my visa application. I submitted the passport two days ago and I believe the passport is going to be with me very soon.
However, I would like to suggest the IRCC to change and put a very big note that the “processing time” does not reflect how long the processes is going to take. Which means that this is not a prediction, but how long it took in the past. It is difficult though to predict how long it is gonna take to finish the process, because there is many factors that might influence the processing time. Additionally, there is a sazonality that can not be neglected.

That's good news. Looks like you're going to be able to make it for your conference.

Think one of your big issues was that you were travelling with your wife. Travelling together to a conference is atypical. On your own you may have been approved faster. The websites should indicate that these are estimates plus you are not a UK citizen applying in the UK so processing times are longer. It definitely does say not to book tickets before visa approval but I realize that is not always possible. Luckily you got approved just in time.
