Hi everyone,

My brother in law sponsored his parents and now they are PR in Canada.
Unfortunately he passed away last month and my question is what kind of benefits my in laws can receive from BC government and federal government ?
They have their Free MSP

They don’t get any benefits due to his death. If he was married and his wife co-signed their application she will be financially responsible for them for the rest of the undertaking (10 or 20 years depending on when they were sponsored). MSP premiums are dependent on income so not free but they may receive some assistance. They will have to reassess their situation depending on their financial situation and whether he left behind a family and what kind of estate. Unfortunately many people have not considered that this may be a possibility.
