Hi everyone, I have a question for you. Once my American fiance and I get married and after we apply for PR and she gets accepted, is there a time limit for when she has to apply for citizenship, or can we take our time with it?

Only benefit is that Citizens get to vote and PR cannot.
Additionally:

- There is no residency obligation for citizenship
- You do not need to renew citizenship every five years
- If you have children as a citizen, your children are also citizens
- Some high-security government jobs require you to be a citizen
- A Canadian passport is only issued to citizens

...and so on.

Some don’t want to give up there other citizenship and the other country doesn’t allow citizenship. In the case of dual US and Canadian citizens decide to give up their US citizenship for tax reasons. Some are just lazy because with PR they have a very normal life and act as citizens. Some people don’t travel outside Canada so the don’t even have an updated PR card.

Can my fiance claim gst cheques or file her taxes here with PR?

Whether your fiancée will get GST payments depends on how much you guys make. Yes as a PR if you are a tax resident you should file taxes.
