Hopefully someone can help me out. Our 20 yr old son seems to think he can buy a house in Flint Michigan and just move there from Windsor Ontario. He said he looked into what paperwork he needs to fill out so he can be over there. He seems to think because I am an American he can just move there and the process will be faster. I reside here in Windsor Ontario.
My concern is he has been talking to real estate agents and has found some houses he might want to purchase. We have tried to talk to him telling him he just can't go over but he seems to think he knows everything. I would hate to see him loose his savings when he realizes he can't live there and get a job right away than loose the house. Are we wrong that he cannot just go over there and start up quickly. Any advise would be greatly appreciated

He cannot move to the U.S. as a Canadian. He would need to have American citizenship or a green card or another type of visa that allows him to move. Buying a property in the U.S. does not entitle him to live in the U.S.

It's possible he may be an America by descent through you.

He can buy a house although I would stay away from Flint. He can't work unless he has a visa.

Why would he loose the house or money? Can't he flip or keep it as a rental or vacation property in case he cannot live there?

Flint is definitely not a vacation destination and not a town that will be seeing any growth.

Financially he doesn't have enough money to be flipping the house . Flint is not a place where he should be buying a house

What nationalities does he hold. That is the key question.

Agreed. It sounds like he may have a claim to American citizenship by descent. If he's already American or can obtain citizenship easily through descent - there's not much stopping him from buying a place in MI.
