Hi all,

Let's have a thread for all private sponsors or those wishing to become a sponsor / contributor (individuals, community groups, sponsorship agreement holders, group of 5, BVOR) to share their experience and support each other.

I went through the experience of sponsoring my husband (who happens to be Syrian) through the Spousal Sponsorship program. We managed the entire application process on our own and I'm happy to say that in May 2016 he received his PR card. We know what it feels like to be waiting....and wondering what is going on...the anxiety that at any moment the application will be returned or rejected.

I met a friend of his who had fled from the Syrian war who now lives precariously with his family in Turkey. I wanted to help early in 2016 and tried to form a G5 when around the same time a Canadian friend had called and said that she knew people who were interested in sponsoring a refugee family. While trying to form our G5, we managed to find a Sponsorship Agreement Holder (SAH) who was willing to work with our group because we had strong funding and settlement services commitment. We are just now waiting for CIC to finish / finalize our refugee family application. This is one of the hardest parts...especially because the location where they are staying in Turkey has seen some terrible attacks in the past few months.

So now we wait....

Suggested Thread Guidelines
  • Respect the privacy of sponsors / refugees - do not post any names of refugees, individual sponsors, non-public groups
  • This is not a thread to match refugees and sponsors. If you are a refugee seeking a private sponsorship, please start / post in a separate thread
  • Avoid private messages and post your private sponsorship questions / experiences to the group keeping in mind the first guideline. The whole point of a forum is so others can benefit from the questions and answers.
  • Review the information provided by CIC and other links below BEFORE posting a generic question like "how do I sponsor a refugee?"

However, if your question isn't answered in the published info, this is exactly the place where you can post and hopefully someone who has been through the experience can help.

So let's start! Please share your experiences and add your resources here by posting a reply to this thread. Here are a few:

Are you aware of any SAH that are willing to take families where we are ready to shoulder the costs and put the guarantees?
Thanks,

Pre-arrival is start of security check and depending on your country of origin it takes different time. What is your country of origin?

Comment poster dans un fil séparé? ? Je suis une réfugiée congolaise au Burundi je cherche un groupe de cinq pour me parrainer.
Merci beaucoup de m'aider.
[QUOTE = "chilkootcee, post: 5516362, membre: 548736"] Bonjour à tous,

I met a friend of his who had fled from the Syrian war who now lives precariously with his family in Turkey.
