Ahoy folks. My romanian partner and I are moving from the UK to Canada in 8 months, I'll be sponsoring her. We are going to send the application for outland sponsorship in a couple weeks. My question is, if we are going thru the process, but PR is not yet granted by the time we travel to Canada, will she require proof of onward travel? We have 1 way tickets to Calgary. Thanks for any help

Bump... also, we have notarized friends letters saying how they'll miss us when we move away in 8 months... will this look bad, them saying she's moving with me even before PR? Should they just say visiting? Thanks a bunch for any assistance

She cannot “move to canada” before PR is issued. She would be entering as a visitor. It is NOT recommended that you have people say shes moving here. She shouldnt be coming with all her belongings either. She may have to show proof of funds for the duration of her stay, etc. It is also recommended that she have a 2 way ticket. Often airlines wont allow passengers without canadian pr or citizenship to board without a return flight. CBSA may also want to see a return flight.

Proof of travel after app has been submitted is not required, however if an interview is requested that stuff may be required. Keep in mind that the interview will be in her country not here in canada.

I suggest doing a bit more research before “moving” her here.

Alright thanks for that, I'll get a return flight and sort out the letters before sending the application. Its just that I've seen other posts in this forum saying it's okay to bring the partner to Canada before pr, not mentioning interviews etc. How often do they do interviews?

It is fine to “visit” but to move to canada before getting pr is not advisable. My husband was here during our processing. He came to visit me and we extended his stay as i was pregnant.

Interviews are on a case by case basis. If they question anything or want to see the genuineness they will call for one.

Thanks again. I'll make sure she's got a return flight and is ready for a potential interview in the UK. Now I must research more into things I may not be aware of. Should I include a copy of her return flight info in the application? Or just book the return flight sometime prior to us visiting Canada?

The return flight has no bearing on the pr application. I suggest you review the checklist for all required documents and proofs required

Good to know, thanks for all the help! Now if she's approved for PR while visiting in Canada, does she need to fly out and back in to be landed at an airport and talk to border agents? Or is there some way of going around that... thanks again for your time
