Need to renew my Canadian Passport

Hi, I am Canadian but living in the US -- very soon, I will need to renew my Canadian passport. I have been in the US for about 5 years and two years ago I married my American boyfriend, next year we will go through the process of getting my green card -- do you think I should renew my passport before applying for my green card or just wait until I receive my green card? Thank you for your help

Thank you for your response and yes when I apply for my green card, my passport will be valid for sure -- we plan on applying in Feb or March but should my passport expire while they are in they are reviewing my application - do I need to renew my passport?
