Hi,

I'm currently living in Japan with my wife and our 7 month old daughter. We are planning on moving to Canada and I am going to sponsor my wife. I need to apply for a Canadian citizenship certificate for our daughter and I was wondering if I could submit this application as well as the family sponsor application for my wife at the same time. The family sponsor application requires my daughters citizenship certificate as one of the forms to submit.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi

They can't be submitted together but yes, you can submit both applications. You don't need the certificate for your wife's app. Just include your daughter's birth certificate and state that you have applied for the citizenship certificate. IRCC will be able to see that she is a citizen.

Amazing, thank you for the information!

On a side note, what if I end up moving to Canada before she gets accepted and she just goes on a holiday visa. What process would we take to change the information? Would it be better to just move there and then apply while in the country? We plan on moving in May-June of 2019.

Thanks again.

You can't change from an out-of-Canada (outland) to an in-Canada (inland) application mid-stream. If you move to Canada after having applied outland, your wife may be required to return to Japan for an interview - though there may only be a small chance of that.

Be aware that the risk of "moving" to Canada is that a border officer may deny your wife entry if the border officer feels that your wife will overstay a visa - and moving is one of those risk red flags. There are ways to do what you propose, but the border entrance is occasionally a challenge.

You just use the Webform to update IRCC about the new address in Canada. No issues applying now. I wouldn't wait.

The chance of refusal of entry when a sponsorship app is in process is almost nil. CBSA is pretty understanding in this situation.
