There was a local municipal election where I live, and I was told permanent residence could actually vote. Did not know that!

That's odd. One of my Canadian coworkers went to vote in the Ottawa municipal election, and saw his PR wife's name beside his, so he thought his wife could of voted if she had gone with him... This website is not a government site, is it?

Ontario’s municipal and school board elections take place on October 22, 2018. If you are a resident, owner or tenant of property in Ontario, a Canadian citizen and 18 years of age you can vote in Ontario’s municipal and school board elections.

Settlement.org. is in fact a government funded web site.

Sometimes people end up on the voter list in error. PRs cannot vote.

. It’s okay for pr to pay property taxes for the province they live in but they cannot vote not fair at all.

It's probably an error that his wife's name ended up on the voter's list, then.

Even if your name is on the list, it’s illegal to vote unless you’re a citizen. If you want to get (or retain) Canadian citizenship, I suggest you don’t vote!

"Taxation without Representation" was the reason the United States revolted against the British Empire ;) I still saw those words on some license plates when I was down there.

The biggest irony is that the US is one of two countries that will tax based on citizenship instead of residency. Hence US citizens abroad need to file/pay taxes without representation!

This rule is quite common globally.

Same rules apply in Grenada (I believe that's the flag in your profile).
