hi Guys I really need some help here.

I was a ICT(Intercompany-transfer ) employee that my Canada working permit started on Aug,2015 and I landed on the same day at bridge, however I didn't get enrolled on the Canada company's payroll until Feb 2016 and was paid by oversea company during the 7 months but I do perform the service in Canada locally.

I left the company on Sep 2018 which I worked for 3 years but if we count the payroll I only have 2.5 years.
My HR wrote me a reference letter which indicate my working experience started from Aug 2015 and put my latest Canadian salary as my pay.

However the salary I was paid by oversea company is NOT as the same as the Canadian payroll. I do have the Canadian Paystub since Feb 2016 but I don't have any oversea Paystub from Aug 2015 to Feb 2016 and didn't report the T4 during 2015 as it was less than 183 days, that means I don't have proof to prove that I was get paid during 2015....

At this moment, the 3 years will give me 11 more points which makes the invitation much easier, My question is

1. When I summit the application, which date I should input as the starting date of my Canadian working experience? what's the legal definition of Canadian working experience?

2. If it will be simple for me to put the payroll starting day ( Feb 2016) as start, should I summit a explanation letter to CIC to explain the whole story or should I need let HR to re-write a reference letter?

Thank you all for any suggestion.

Lisa.
1. You should report income no matter how much is your income. Reporting income is not all about CRA taking money from you but it is part of the whole scheme. Base on your income reported, they will calculate your retirement benefit and other benefits also.
2. You should look for an accountant and work with him/her on filing income for 2015 if you plan to claim 3 years
3. If you plan to claim 2 years only, letter of explanation should be sufficient. But still, please report your 2015 income.

Thank you for prompt response. I was told that It was less than 183 days in canada in 2015 so it is unnecessary to report tax for that year. I will recheck with my accountant.

Is there any format request for Letter of explanation ? Need HR sign the letters ?

thank you!!

I don't know who told you that, but you should stop taking advise from that person regarding taxation or immigration.

1. I myself filed income on the first year I had been in Canada on work permit even though I came to Canada on October and only started to work in middle of December. It is unnecessary if you are Canadian, because "who care", right? But you are not and, and the fact that you miss one step will cause so many headaches in the future.

2. Nope, there isn't format for letter of explanation. It is a free style letter that let you to provide them the pieces of information that you think they will need for processing your application. I would start with "Dear Sir/Madam ..." and end with "Yours faithfully" to make it sounds formal.
