Hi

I have a question regarding eligibility to become a sponsor.

I came to Canada in 2011 as an International student. I got married in 2013 and my husband moved here on spouse open work permit. I completed my studies in 2015 and has been working full-time since then. In 2016 we applied for PR under Express entry Canadian experience class. My husband was the primary applicant. We both had Canadian work experience at the time of application. We became PR in 2016 June. In 2018 Feb my husband and I filed for divorce in mutual consent and the divorce was granted in August 2018.

Since i am alone here I would like to sponsor my parents so that they can move here. I would like to know if the five year sponsorship bar applies to me ? https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...bulletins-2012/386-modified-march-2-2012.html

I wasn't sponsored while we applied for PR. I studied in Canada and also I have been working here. My ex husband is not obligated to support me financially nor am I dependent on him. Since I was not the primary applicant I am not sure if the five year bar applies to me.
Will be very helpful if someone here can explain.

There is no bar applicable to you. You can apply to sponsor your parents, if eligible and lucky.

Thank you for your reply.
Since I was not the primary applicant on the Pr application , I got a bit confused. That's why I posted it here.
I will proceed with the sponsorship application and see how that goes.

I really care to live and work in Canada. Starting and nurturing my family right in the country as well.
