Hi,

I returned to Kuwait during my summer break and was supposed to fly back to Canada today but was stopped at my local airport. My visa has expired but my study permit is valid till 2020. My course starts in a few days, could someone please tell me what to do in this situation?

Thank you

I know someone who used to be in your situation, it’s just that she didn’t notice her visa has expired. Upon coming back to Canada her trv was processed at the border.

A TRV can't be processed at the border. OP can't even board a plane to travel to Canada without a TRV.

As said by bongoman, you need to apply for a TRV. Processing time for Kuwait is 24 days plus mailing time, so I suggest you contact your school about deferring your studies.

Well she was able to do it, given that she had a valid student permit. It took her a couple of hours at the airport security though but yes she was given entry back to Canada. No idea how it went but she said she was very anxious as she thought she would be denied entry but that wasn’t the case. Maybe she was just lucky? I don’t know if there was a foil on her passport after that but my point is, she was able to enter Canada with an expired trv on her passport and a VALID STUDENT PERMIT.

Then she has lied to you or you have misunderstood the situation. As I said, TRVs cannot be issued at the border and she wouldn't have been able to board a plane to Canada without a valid TRV. This is why OP was refused boarding.

Hi I am currently in the same situation. Can you tell me how long it took for you to get your visa? (Business days)
