What is required for engineers to be able to work or have a work permit for canada?

Job offer from a Canadian employer and also an approved LMIA so that they can apply for the work permit. Additionally, they may have to go through a certification / registration process in order to work in a role that is officially an engineering role.

My guess is not that common given the registration/certification requirements and the difficulty in obtaining an LMIA.

I think the only place where it may be common is in instances where that engineer already works for that company in a role outside of Canada and they are moving that individual to Canada under an ICT because they have a managerial role and have specialized knowledge.

Thanks for your reply, one more question,is it easier for lmia approval if the applicant has a resident in canada or not, also what is required for getting a license in canada for engineers with foreign education?thanks

For the LMIA, it doesn't make a difference if the applicant is in Canada or not. For the work permit, lower chances of approval if the applicant is in Canada since IRCC likes the applicant to be able to show ties to their home country and this is obviously more difficult to do if they are already in Canada.

For your second question, it depends on the province and google is your friend. Google: 'becoming a certified engineer in <insert province name>'

So lmia approval has no advantage if the applicant has relatives in canada or not, what about applying for pr? Does having a valid lmia give any advantage?
