Hello, I have a question for anyone with expertise on this.

I need to obtain a certificate of canadian citizenship for my grandfather who is deceased. I need this in order to apply myself for citizenship in another country (his home country) which I am eligible to do.

This is one of the documents that is required (and obviously obtainable) because this has been done by countless other people. But I can't see any info on the IRCC website that says how to get the certificate for a deceased family member. Anyone know how to do this???

Thanks I must have missed that.

Do you happen to know what to do though for the parts of the application that request a "passport sized photo" and anything else that would be unobtainable for a deceased family member?
I'm sorry, I don't know. This isn't a topic that comes up very often.

where does it say on the 2 page application form a passport photo is required of the deceased ? It asks the applicant for a copy of 2 pieces of Id but not for the deceased.

Hey did you figure this out? I noticed they provided you with the link to search for the records but I'd like to have a certified copy for the same reason as you, to apply for citizenship of another country.

I am looking for a way to order a Canadian Citizenship Certificate of a deceased person as well for purpose of application for citizenship with Italy. I do not see any application for that type of request. I already have the certificate number so I don't need to submit a search for records. I just need the actual certification.

1. Google is your friend "Canada copy of deceased persons citizenship certificate" returns

How to get someone else’s record
If the person is alive

The person must give consent by signing and dating section 4B in the paper application form.

If the person is deceased for less than 20 years

You need to provide

  • the date of death
  • proof of
    • death, such as a death certificate
    • your relationship to the deceased person, such as a marriage certificate, and
    • your legal right to get their information (such as documents naming you as the administrator or executor of the person’s estate)
If the person is deceased for more than 20 years

You need to provide a copy of your personal identification, such as a driver’s licence or health card.

Hi! I find myself in the same situation. My father was natutalized Canadian before I was born. He passed away some time ago, but I dont have his citizenship certificate. I need to know if you were able to apply with the citizenship records. Or if anyone else could help me with this.
