My boyfriend comes to Canada each year from Jamaica on a work permit in the agriculture industry. The next time he comes we plan on getting married. Just wondering when we should start the immigration process? Should we wait until we are married and do the family sponsorship? We would like to take the best route to obtain approval obviously. But if there is a way to speed up the process, that would be beneficial as well. Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you :)

Well, he doesn’t qualify for family sponsorship until you get married. It doesn’t sound like you’ve lived together for 12 straight months, which is the only other way he would’ve qualified for family sponsorship.

If he qualifies for PR through a PNP, he could go that route.

Thanks. I will look in to that. If not, I guess we wait!
