Hi All

I am South African and have done my first time application online for a Travel Visitor Visa which came back refused today on these basis:

• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as a temporary resident, as stipulated in paragraph 179(b) of the IRPR, based on your travel history.
• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as a temporary resident, as stipulated in paragraph 179(b) of the IRPR, based on the length of your proposed stay in Canada.
• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as a temporary resident, as stipulated in paragraph 179(b) of the IRPR, based on the purpose of your visit.
• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as a temporary resident, as stipulated in paragraph 179(b) of the IRPR, based on your personal assets and financial status.
You are welcome to reapply if you feel that you can respond to these concerns and can demonstrate that your situation meets the requirements. All new applications must be accompanied by a new processing fee.

I am looking for any help and clarification on what I need to do or adjust for approval.

My application for visa is to go visit my girlfriend who is a Canadian citizen residing in Guelph Ontario.
We have submitted Letter of Invitation with supporting financial documents for hosting my stay there.

My questions to the above are as follows:

With regards to travel history... I have never traveled out of my country and my passport is new... I do have an expired passport from 2012 do I submit that as proof that I have not traveled out of my home country before?

I have stated in my application that I'd like to visit from mid September to first week of January to spend time and the festive holidays with my girlfriend and her kids. I have also provided bank statements and letter from my bank that I have C$4k plus available in overdraft excluding the C$3k I have available on my credit card which I did not add to my application... should I submit credit card statement too? Is this enough funds as my girlfriend is hosting me with food and lodge?

With regards to purpose of visit, in online application, an example of purpose of visit was a plane ticket.
Do I need to purchase a plane ticket before visa application? I have not purchased a ticket on the logic that I would need my visa approved before purchasing a plane ticket as that makes more sense.

Any help and assistance will be gratefully appreciated
Many Thanks.

Others can comment but the second bullet about length of stay could be an issue that is driving the other reasons . Given your lack of travel history , financial situation and no mention whether you are employed or not in SA you might have a better chance just applying for a 2 to 3 week stay. You should not book any travel until your application has been resolved.

Thank you for your reply Bs65

So you think the main issue is just the length of visit? This is a first time for me and any help is appreciated because I honestly have no clue.

Many Thanks

In regards to shortening the visa application to 2 to 3 weeks in September would I have to reapply to go back for December Holidays?

TRV approvals are based on your ties to South Africa, not so much your purpose to visit Canada. Having a Canadian GF and the ability to spend 4-5 months there do not show sufficient ties to South Africa. If you wish to reapply, you have to demonstrate ties more than finances (you did not show enough IMO), such as full-time employment or a an established business.

If ever you are approved for a TRV and permitted to enter Canada, you will be usually authorized to stay for 6 months so there won’t be a need to reapply if you wish to stay for the holidays.

With regards to ties to my home country, I do not own property, I have family here and I did submit employment letter, lease agreement and various accounts that I have, what else would I need to submit to prove ties to South Africa?

Please... Help needed!

I have resubmitted my visa application and amended the travel length to 3 weeks from the 3 months as stated with first application above in this thread. I have also submitted the same amount for shorter period of visit and have added credit card statements up above the my and my girlfriend's bank statements as before and I have submitted a return ticket with application too.

All other documents as before submitted: proof of address with lease agreement and statements, letter of employment and pay stubs, account statements and copy of both my and my girlfriend's identification documents ( birth certificates, driver's licenses, ID card, passport etc. )

I also stated that I was refused and have made these changes and submitted extra documentation in the hopes that the amended visa application would meet with their satisfaction.

I got confirmation back today and my reapplication was also refused.

I know from this now that the length of stay meets requirement but am still stuck getting approval on the above.

Once again any help in the right direction will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks
