Stamped visa glitch

Hi,
One of my friend’s got the study visa for September 2018 intake which extends till sept 2019. However the visa expires 90 days before the course completion (on June 30 2019) instead of 90 days after the program is over. Is it normal to have such short duration? And what to do now, should he apply for extension while in Canada one month before his visa expires?

A visa has nothing to do with how long he can stay in Canada. His study permit will be granted by CBSA when he enters.

Thank you so much for the reply. So is CBSA going to issue a document confirming the extended stay ? And does he still need to apply online for the extension ?

CBSA will issue his study permit.
