Asking this query on behalf of my sister who applied in November 2016 and apparently her application for grant citizenship is been stuck for a while...

Ecas Status is:

1. We received your application for Canadian citizenship (grant of citizenship) on November 3,
2. We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s), and a study book called called Discover Canada Discover Canada on December 7, 2016.
3. We started processing your application on January 5, 2017.
4. We sent you a notice on April 19, 2017 to appear and write the citizenship test on May 16, 2017 at 9:00 AM. The notice you will receive by mail will be your official confirmation of your 2017 at 9:00 AM. The notice you will receive by mail will be your official confirmation of your appointment. If you have not received this notice prior to the date of your scheduled appointment. If you have not received this notice prior to the date of your scheduled appointment, please appointment, please contact us contact us.

Did the step 4 in May and interview was also conducted on the same day but since then nothing happened. Called them several times but was told to wait till November 2017 until the processing time of 12 months is overdue.

Now 12 month processing time is overdue and nothing happened, would anyone please advise what action should be taken to expedite the remaining process of citizenship application?

Many thanks in advance.

first have you guys ordered ATIP before to see where the application at which stage ???

2- call them to know what is going on ??? when you call them try to understand what is the reason delaying the file ???

3- now it is the time to contact you MP asking for help

4- you can also reach the Immigration minister office

5- your last option would be contacting a lawyer

Was this resolved already? I wanna know what happened as we are pretty much on the same boat. This is my timeline:

  1. We received your application for Canadian citizenship (grant of citizenship) on November 17, 2016.
  2. We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s), and a study book called Discover Canada on December 12, 2016.
  3. We started processing your application on December 19, 2016.
  4. We sent you a notice on January 6, 2017 to appear and write the citizenship test on January 25, 2017 at 8:30 AM. The notice you will receive by mail will be your official confirmation of your appointment. If you have not received this notice prior to the date of your scheduled appointment, please contact us.
I've already taken my exam and interview on the same day. The interviewer told me that if there is no problem, I should receive the oath taking letter or if i needed to submit additional docs. Followed up 90 days after but they told me that the processing already takes 12 months. I wrote them via webform on the 12th month of my application and they replied that my application is presently at the IRCC office in Edmonton Alberta and they will contact me if they needed additional information. Followed up again last Feb 2018 because it is still in process when I checked online and they don't have any idea how much longer should I wait? All of my friends who have taken their exams between feb 2017-dec 2017 already took their oath of citizenship. Any advice for my case? Thank you :)

Do you know if your background check is complete ? I'm guessing your security clearance is the hold up. If you're not sure, I would suggest to call the IRCC call center and ask. Alternatively, you could order GCMS notes free of cost, however it takes a month to receive them. And security clearance results are redacted. Please see my signature on how to order the notes, if you're interested. Good luck

Thank you for your reply razerblade :)

Anyway, I have no idea regarding the background check if they are done with it or not. So if I call IRCC, what do I ask them? Should I tell them that I applied for citizenship and it is still In process under ECAS and ask them if my background check is done?

Yes, your application is well past the 1 year mark. Once you tell them that you have an application for Grant of Citizenship in process, they will ask you a few questions to verify your identity. Keep your citizenship file number and client id handy.

Yes my status is still the same. Its been 18 months and counting since I applied my application. Appied for ATIP in November 17 and got my Atip notes in April 18 (after 5 months). and those notes were only up to November last year. According to ATIP notes, my file is pending in Edmonton office for ages, and looks like security clearance is on HOLD. sick and tired of this frozen country. Cant even travel abroad.
