Hi two quick questions

1. Do I need to have health insurance to get/maintain a OWP?

2. Do I need to work the whole time I have my OWP? If not working, can I still stay, then apply for a job later? Say I wanted to switch jobs and had a brief 1 month breaking no work in between.

Thanks

1. No
2. Don't need to work at ALL times, there is no rule like that.

Ah and you do not need health insurance at all?

If I wanted some Is it hard to get as a non PR?

You do not need health insurance for the OWP but it is a good idea from a financial and risk perspective to get travelers/visitors health insurance. It is not difficult to get at all. It is a separate type of policy than the ones that Canadians would get (as those policies simply add on to the benefits they already get from their provincial coverage).

You dont NEED health insurance, its not a condition of the OWP. Thats not to say you shouldnt get any.

Many companies offer health insurance for those not covered by the province medical system.

Oh ok I see. When trying to find health insurance, I only see it for visitors before entering Canada, not while in Canada.

Do you know of any I can get while in Canada while I'm on my OWP?

Dont really know any of the top of my head but maybe try calling round or doing search on here.. Its maybe just that the option isnt on the providers' website but is available from them. Tons of people have it while in Canada so its available.

Try Blue Cross. Im sure i've seen them mentioned before.

Theres a health section on this forum (go to main forum list), have a look in there maybe.

Ok I see. Would I be looking for visitors insurance? I am confused.

I already have travelers insurance from when I entered canada

When you call the companies just explain what you are looking for/your situation. I dont know the exact name for it.
